This mound of topsoil is home to a den of foxes. It is along a popular city walking trail and so far no one has vandalized the site. It happens though but I'm hoping the foxes stay safe. The mound has many, many entrance holes though only two are visible in this photo.

This is very interesting. I never thought about where foxes live. I never see more than one at a time, so I always assumed that they live solitary lives.
Mary MacADNski: They quite often live in culverts in ditches also. This is an ideal site except that it's so close to a walking trail.
Maybe 5 foxes there! You are so lucky to have this magnificent wildlife all around you, Mary. You show things so nonchalantly, as though they are so very commonplace for you there on PEI. It just amazes me!
Mary MacADNski: LOL. They are commonplace here. It's very rural here still and I live in a rural area. I have foxes here all the time and raccoons every night. They are our largest wild animals. We don't have deer or moose or bears. This photo is not from a rural area but along a city walking trail.
Mary MacADNski: It WAS very difficult to shoot. I got several then mom barked and everyone went into their holes. I had to magnify this on the computer so that we could see it as I was quite far away.
Wow that is a great shot. I have never been able to find a den that is so photographable.
Mary MacADNski: This is in the middle of a city on a walking trail, believe it or not. I couldn't get any closer. When I tried the mother barked and immediately everyone went underground through one of the many holes. It was really fabulous to come across. There was a bit of a problem with people who bring dogs onto the trail but once word got around, people took extra care to hold onto their dogs.
