Mary MacADNski: Thank you. It is beautiful, I think.

Good idea Mary. There does seem to be something lacking in the composition and I am no too sure what you could do to improve it. You show a very good use of DOF techniques and general focus and the exposure is pretty good as well. Regards, Neil.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Neil.

That's a MAPLE, Mary? Wow. I immediately thought it was a birch tree which has similar color and texture. I'm guessing you have the same laws we have against peelig the flaking bark! The mottled look is so beautiful.
Mary MacADNski: The mottled bark is just coloration. It is very smooth but I can see how it looks textured. I think it's beautiful. This is a specific maple - white maple, I believe.

What a beautiful tree if I hadn't read the comments I would have commented on the texture. Lovely capture of it
Mary MacADNski: I was totally taken with all the gum trees in Au and took home seeds from the snow gum. They needed special conditions so I gave them to my bro-in-law but he didn't plant them. The bark was so neat!

It's gorgeous, I'm not surprised you took this picture, I think I'd have done exactly the same. smile
Mary MacADNski: It's easy to find the beauty in nature, I think.

Right, like a map painted from hand. Great find!

Great pattern. That middle grouping reminds me of a current map of the erstwhile soviet block countries.

Great picture.
Well spotted. It's a fascinating pattern.
Mary MacADNski: I love these maples.

I love these maples too, as much for their syrup as for the way they look. I like it on just about anything - waffles, bacon, ice cream!
Mary MacADNski: Yeah for maple syrup. Try marinating a roast of beef in it for a couple of days then roast as usual. Yum!

I reckon you could have beautiful pattern picture in just the details of the trunk too.
Mary MacADNski: Yes, a macro would work. Come on over. I'll show you the tree. LOL
