photoblog image North Shore Dunes

North Shore Dunes

Though I live on the south shore of the island and don't get to the north shore very often,  I did manage a trip one day last week.  It was cold and windy but great nonetheless.  The landscape is much different with sandy beaches and dunes rather than the familiar rocky south shore.

It's amazing how much diversity an island can offer. This is very pretty and seems peaceful.
Mary MacADNski: It's very true with the north and south of the island looking like different places all together. I love that diversity!

Beautiful world...indeed!
Love the golden grass in the foreground, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I love the golden grasses this time of year and it makes the sharp bladed marram grass look so soft.
Yes, indeed.

I love it.
Mary MacADNski: Beautiful isn't it?

I could play here too. Great shot.
Mary MacADNski: Absolutely! It would be much better weather in the summer but it's quieter now and you get the playground to yourself.

Wow , the ridge. I am sorry I am an earth scientist by profession and all I can see is a great picture of a geological feature. And its a great picture of a ridge.
Mary MacADNski: As an earth scientist, you would find the Atlantic provinces fascinating. Newfoundland is pure rock, Nova Scotia is partially rock and we here are a big sandbar. I find it so interesting to see.
Hmmm ! A beautiful depth in this great seascape ! Bravo !
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Zebigleb. It's a fine place to visit.
A wonderful sense of magnificent solitude. Love the golden colour of the grasses. (:o)
Mary MacADNski: I do love the golden grass colours in the fall, as well. At this time of year there is solitude. Come back here in July and the beach will be full of tourists.

What an expansive view that suddenly makes me feel I can BREATHE! Out of curiosity, Mary, how far away is the north shore from where you live?
Mary MacADNski: The Island is 224 km (140 mi) long and from 6-64 km (4-40 mi) wide. No place in the province is more than 16 km (10 mi) from the sea. I am only a half hour away. The beaches are beautiful there but the water is colder than the south shore as they are on different water systems. Both sides have their good and bad qualities.

Mary I have not seen the sea for a little while, now your shot has given me the urge to visit my Aunt as she lives by the sea.smile
Mary MacADNski: I remember some shots you had of your aunt's area and you talking about it. I can tell it is a special place for you.

Golden grass covering those softly rolling dunes..framed by the ocean. What a beautiful place...
Mary MacADNski: It is wonderful. I wish I got there more often. It's only a half hour away but I spend most of my time in my southern neighbourhoods.
ver interesting color of the grass on the dunes, is it like that all year round? Beautiful place to be taken for a walk, thank you...
Mary MacADNski: No the dunes are covered in green marram grass in the summer. Like the leaves, this grass changes colour and to me, becomes more beautiful when it is golden. I have dunes featured for a couple more days.

This is beautiful and it touches my african soul. Excellent picture.
Mary MacADNski: I'm glad to touch a soul, Louis. Thanks.
Mary this is pretty nice, you should have more wals along this landscape.
Mary MacADNski: I'm missing one word and am not sure what you're saying. wals?
Very beautyfull picture Mary. I like the soft clour tones
Mary MacADNski: The colours are pretty good for a dull day. I would like a bright day soon though
This reminds me a bit of some of the South Devon Coast where I spent much of my childhood. Lovely composition Mary. Song is just right too.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Bill. I love that song. I'm always singing and humming and sometimes this song appears on my lips when hiking.

Mary MacADNski: Where is Texel, Astrid?

It looks cold and windy, but also a fabulous place
Mary MacADNski: It was cold and windy. The grasses were blowing and aren't that sharp. It was lovely nonetheless as I was dressed for it.

Beautiful Mary, lovely composition
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Aussie. It's great to get out into the countryside and beaches. Yeah for the landscape!
