Snowshoes

I'm still posting photos of my time away.  This is at my brother's back door.  The two middle pair are mine.  My bro was installing new bindings.  I'll take you out snowshoeing tomorrow.  Ha, I just noticed my daughter's pink shoes.

What are these things then?
Just kidding...of course I know...they are the rattan trays used for the steaming of fish and other foods.
In Thailand, though, we would never store them with the shoes...different customs for different countries, heh!
[grin]
Mary MacADNski: The fish is still outside. Tomorrow I get to skat on my pond for the first(and maybe only) time this year. Sometimes it is so clear you can see fish through the ice but not so this year.
Merry Christmas to you and your family Mary, hope you all are having a swell time grin
Mary MacADNski: Swell, times three.

I am looking forward to our snowshoeing trip, count me in for hot chocolat lateron Mary, I like the picture of all the 'shoes' together, your daughter shoes will be tied on just beautiful grin
Mary MacADNski: Yes, I'm keeping the snowshoeing shot up and ignoring the "Christmas" challenge. This morning I will also put snowshoeing shots on An Island Walk. - http://anislandwalk.blogspot.com/
I think we do call them "raquettes" in french. Interesting shot Mary
Mary MacADNski: These are snowshoes, Richard, or are you pulling my leg?

Cool shot Mary, I have never seen these before.
Mary MacADNski: They are snow shoes and wonderful for going into the woods in winter, where it is impossible to go without them because of heavy snow. It's great exercise too.
Love the difference in shoe (sizes) smile
Mary MacADNski: Yes different styles but all adult - one size fits all.

Count me in for the snowshoeing Mary, sounds great fun.smile
Mary MacADNski: I'm afraid I won't be doing any more snowshoeing.I've just returned from emergency. I severely dislocated my shoulder, tearing the ligaments and getting a bone chip in the process. I had taken my skates off and has boots on. I won't be skating or snow shoeing any more this winter. I have a contraption on for six weeks.

Did you ever see the "Baby sized" snowshoes he bought for Olivia and Rachel each for their first Christmas? They're so very cute. Only about a foot long, but made the exact same way.

Olivia's look different, instead of being the normal rounded end, they come to a point. They have 2 seperate pieces of wood meet at the end instead of one piece bent round. Rachel's are the standard round at the front with the long point at the back.

I don't know the proper names of the different styles except the Bear Paw style (round at both ends -- I'm assuming those ones are yours)

I won't be skating or snow shoeing any more this winter. I have a contraption on for six weeks. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this one. Will you please call Dad and tell him.

Shucks, you mean to tell me that your feet can fit in the sneakers as well as those baskets. Expandable feet smile ?

Luckily I have seen comic books in my youth with these contraptions, otherwise I would have made the same fishing mistake. They also look good for tennis smile

From tomorrow's trip I expect candid shots - also of some slipping and sliding tongue
Mary MacADNski: I don't want to hear about slipping and sliding. I've just returned from emergency. I severely dislocated my shoulder, tearing the ligaments and getting a bone chip in the process. I had taken my skates off and has boots on. I won't be skating or snow shoeing any more this winter. Ihave a contraption on for six weeks. I won't be able to do anything.

Snow Shoes!
Not the sort of thing you find stored in a UK porch smile
Interesting to see the different shapes and sizes.
Mary MacADNski: Bill said the same. He suggested flippers would be more readily available. I've just returned from emergency. I severely dislocated my shoulder, tearing the ligaments and getting a bone chip in the process. I had taken my skates off and has boots on. I won't be skating or snow shoeing any more this winter. I hav a contraption on for six weeks.
Wouldn't sell a lot of snow shoes round here Mary! Flippers maybe!
Mary MacADNski: lucky you. I've just returned from emergency. I severely dislocated my shoulder, tearing the ligaments and getting a bone chip in the process. I had taken my skates off and has boots on. I won't be skating or snow shoeing any more this winter. Ihava a contrap[tion on for six weeks.

Sorry to hear of your mishap Mary. Sounds like your going to be really uncomfortable for a while wearing that frame thingymebob.
Hope you have a good stock of piccies to get you through until you can use the camera again smile
Mary MacADNski: Lots of photos but no way to do anything. I'm not sure how I can even feed myself. My son is going to move in with me for awhile but he works incredibly long hours.

I've never seen a real pair smile I've often seen drawings of some intrepid (inevitably male) explorer treking off across the drits. I reckoned if it came to it and Ireland ever got a proper snowfal, I could strap a pair of tennis racquets to my feet. Is it traditional / courteous / normal practice to remove your shoes when you enter someone's home?
Mary MacADNski: You're too funny. I can only imagine you with tennis rackets tied to your feet.

Yes, it is traditional to remove your shoes - especially in winter. I am so sad to not be able to skate or snowshoe for the rest of the winter.
