What a fine capture, Ms. Mary! I want to reach out and run my fingers over the stone!
Mary MacADNski: Here is an unflashed version that I like better though it is a bit blurry.

Really interesting use of the shadows around her edges. I like it.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Jewlya. For an unflashed version go here. It's very different. http://photosandpursuits.blogspot.com/2008/01/for-petrushka.html
Lovely picture, Mary! What is the figure holding? A scroll? Or is a an angel wearing a breast plate? The stone has softened so it is hard to tell. The shadow accenting the right edge is helpful in giving it shape.
Mary MacADNski: I looked back at the files and would guess a scroll because in the version without flash there are words visible though eroded enough that it can't be read. I prefer the unlit version but it is a bit blurry. The colour is very different. I just uploaded it to another blog so that you can have a look too though as I said, it's a bit blurry. You can click to make larger.

Nice capture Mary. Beautiful colour to the stone
Mary MacADNski: It is a sandstone from Nova Scotia, our neighbouring province. It is harder than our red sandstone.

This is some outstanding picture again, the statue seems to be alive!!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Astrid. There were several on the church but one will do for here unless I start running out of files but I doubt I will be laid up that long

Nice shot !!! This statue seems to be sad ... What happened to her ?
Mary MacADNski: I don't know the story behind her. She is attached to a church I wanted to photograph.

This sculpture seems eroded. You have acid rain on PEI? If so, I am surprised.

Great picture. Will make time to listen to Van.
Mary MacADNski: Yes, we have acid rain and the church is made from sandstone which erodes quite easily. ALWAYS tke time to listen to Van the same as you would 'stop to smell the roses'.

The detail has stood up to time very well especially around the hand and face.

You really should carry a ladder with you when out shooting Mary. You could have shot this head on then and shown us more of the detail in the face. smile
Mary MacADNski: Here is a link to her taken without flash. It looks quite different though is a bit blurry.

She doesn't look to happy. I think she would prefer to be on an island walk with you, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I think she has bad news to tell. I should have listened.
Wonderful capture Mary. I like the soft tones
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richard.

When I see stonework like this I always wonder whose face it's really showing, whether it was a friend of the mason or somebody from the community.

The inscription on the other picture seems to be French - perhaps Evangelique? Could it be St Michael
Mary MacADNski: I went to a place in Tasmania where the bridge through the town had been made by prisoners and had hidden a protest.

The writing would probably be in Latin. Here is another view, a bit blurry.

Looks like something from Roslyn Chapel of Da'Vinci Code fame, great texture.
Mary MacADNski: Just a church in Charlottetown.
She doesn't look very happy does she? Mind if you'd been stuck half way up a wall as long as she has you'd be a bit off!

Love the colour of the stone. This could be an English church.
Mary MacADNski: Check out this shot of her:

Great capture of the texture in this, Mary. (:o)
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Rosalyn.
I see what you mean when you said you had a similar post to my statue last week, Mary.
I'm trying to figure out the light source in this shot... was it being beamed from below? or was it your flash?

can't seem to figure out what she's holding either...
Mary MacADNski: The light source is my flash. Here's a link to a shot with natural light. You can click on the photo to make it full sized. In it, the features are more readable but a bit blurry. http://photosandpursuits.blogspot.com/2008/01/for-petrushka.html

Lovely tone to the stone M.
Mary MacADNski: If you look back at the comments for this one, I've sent a few people to a shot I posted on another blog of this shot without flash. It's entirely different.
As you know I love sculpture and this one is nice, so I'm an happy man smile
Mary MacADNski: In the comments to this shot, I have linked to a photo I took without flash. You might like that one better.
