I've often wondered what sort of moths these flowers are supposed to attract by being night scented.
Mary MacADNski: As Louis says, there are night butterflies. That must be the draw. Here's a better photo:

Night-scented! Does that mean you don't smell them during the day, Mary? Do they even bloom during the day? (So many questions, so little time!)
Mary MacADNski: They have no scent whatsoever during the day. The bloom is comes in distinct stages and is long lasting. For quite a while before the blooms open they look like wax flowers. I will send you a photo of that stage. Each bloom once open lasts for weeks. Here's a better photo of a plant with two blooms showing:

I had one of these in Australia, and can still recall the scent after many years.
I have not seen a hoya in Thailand.
Mary MacADNski: I believe they may be rain forest plants judging from the way they grow. Here's a better photo of some blooms:

We have night butterflies over here - so maybe they are meant for plants like hoya. Nice scentimental picture.
Mary MacADNski: Ha ha! I think that is what those night butterflies would be for. They would get to wear the hoya perfume too. Drops appear on the flowers for the first week and you can see some near the end of this stage in this photo:

Mary MacADNski: I wish you could too. They're heavenly. I had to take one out of my bedroom a few years ago as the scent kept me awake. Here's a better quality photo of one.

I had the privelidge to have had many of these flowers, it is always a treat if this plant blooms, you captured this very well,
Mary MacADNski: I have five very large ones and a small (1.5 meters) one. I love them. One or the other is in bloom all the time.

Aren't they lovely? I wish I could experience the scent as well as the sight.

I know the Everly Bros version and the Hollies (which was a number 1 in the UK). This version by KD Lang is new to me. I like it.

Mary MacADNski: kd does pretty well everything well. Her voice should be a national treasure. I played her in another blog yesterday, her version of Jane Sibbery's Love Is Everything.

Mary MacADNski: Now you know where the company got it's name - from a beautiful night-scented plant.
Yes I can smell them from my screen ! Hmmmmm smile smile smile
Mary MacADNski: Aren't they the best smell? I had to take a plant out of my bedroom one time after it bloomed. I couldn't sleep with the intensity of the smell.
