Mary, this is great. I was just commenting on a picture in Marcie's blog, saying the geese must have posed for her. And here I see your post. This confirms my belief that all birds have this narcissm - and they love posing for pics! Well caught here.
Mary MacADNski: This duck was sitting (I don't know if there is a nest or not) and I disturbed it so it stood - in readiness for flight.

At least he has the island to himself ... or herself.
Mary MacADNski: I could not tell if there was a nest so was not sure if it was a male or female.

Feels safe out there. But, foxes can swim if the reward is sufficient!
Excellent image, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Do you remember the foxes den from last spring? That is very near this site. I have ducks on my pond too and the nests are constantly being raided by foxes or raccoons.

Funny duck in the middle of his island !!!
Mary MacADNski: I could not tell if there was a nest.
Very nice shot Mary. This duck seems to be on top of the world! Well seen.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richard. I was this from another road and had a couple of minutes before an appointment....

These little islands make it so safe for them. Nice shot Mary
Mary MacADNski: It's a tiny little pond, Aussie. Any animal could swim there and maybe even walk. It's beside a parking lot.

Now that's what you call an upwardly mobile Duck, with his own personal Island.

Very nice
Mary MacADNski: Living in the lap of luxury, he/she is. I think it's a she.

Maybe it was pretending to be a decoy? wink
Mary MacADNski: I'm glad it didn't fly away but it certainly was ready.
Foxes have to eat too! Shame because I like ducks!
Mary MacADNski: I LOVE ducks. I raised them for ears. The foxes weren't as plentiful then. I did lose some and a mother as well as her nest once but there are an abundance of foxes now.

Mary MacADNski: I raised ducks for years but those days are over. I love ducks.
