Donkeys protecting a local farm from coyotes. A couple of nights ago there was a chorus of coyotes howling in the middle of the night. I think they were by the pond or right in my yard outside the window.

Ohhhh. The Three Musketeers! Do you have to worry about the coyotes so up close, Mary? Are all the cats safe-n-sound inside?
Mary MacADNski: I don't let the cats out after dark. That's what happened to Clarke. My niece let him out. He was gone within an hour. Coyotes are mostly around at night though I've seen them in the yard in the winter during the day. The cats are mostly only out when I'm home and in the day.
Fascinating - what exactly do the donkeys do? I can't imagine they would be much of a threat against coyotes! I suppose their braying would wake you up. Nice soft tones - a rural idyll.

Mary MacADNski: I don't know what they do and yes, maybe it is the braying that is like an alarm. They are about a kilometer away and I've heard them in the night. but not often.
This is a great capture Mary, I hope they do a good job of protecting the farm... If not they could hire the Three Musketeers, we would keep them at bay
Lovely
Mary MacADNski: It's a cold job in the winter and the pay is hay.
Well, I hope that these guys do the job. Two appear to be more intested in eating than in keeping watch, though!
Mary MacADNski: A quote from my sister, who knows these things:
"Donkeys will kick, bite, pick up and shake, and kill coyotes. They will protect anything in the field."
One of the most benign creatures on the planet Mary. There are charities who work with special needs children and adults and the effect the donkeys have is heart warming.

Lovey capture of these three beauties.
I would imagine a kick from one of these would make a coyote think twice!

Donkeys will kick, bite, pick up and shake, and kill coyotes.
They will protect anything in the field.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks for that, Cath. They are so docile usually.
