photoblog image Fungi and Fungal

Fungi and Fungal

I found a very old, dying tree last week.  It is laying host to several types of fungi.  Yesterday's shot was of one and here are two more. They are similar but are quite different.  One is green, one is purple.

It's enough to give you the creepy crawlies, Mary. smile I wonder if that's how the tree feels!
Mary MacADNski: The tree is very old and huge and sadly, it's life is coming to a natural end. The fungi help it reach that natural end.

I've never seen so many fungi before. Is that a bad sign, Mary?

(Thanks for your previous comment about my trip.. two fine days and one mainly wet so far! All fabulous, though.)
Mary MacADNski: It's a very old tree. So that she wouldn't have to cut the whole thing down, the owner cut all the long branches off as it is dying and during storms, branches were blowing off. She has saved if for a while and it is now safe from harming her house. For probably fifty years this tree hosted a lovely swing.

That is special!
Mary MacADNski: The person who owns it cut all the long branches off as it is dying and during storms branches were blowing off. The leaves all came back on the shorter limbs but looks funny. For years this tree hosted a lovely swing.
As the tree dies it hosts all sorts of life, nature wastes nothing.
Mary MacADNski: How true - the symbiosis of nature.
What wonderful natural artistry is shown here!
Mary MacADNski: I agree so completely. Mother Nature is the world's greatest artist.
It is a magnificent colony of fungi. But also the trunk of the tree is magnificent that you have found!
Mary MacADNski: It was covered in fungi of all kinds and is very large.

The similar/different fungi makes a nice stairway - could also have had Stairway to Heaven as choice of music.

Great picture.
Mary MacADNski: I don't have that song but it would have been perfect.
