Hmmmm I think there are 3 pictures here. The one we see, the bottom half with the birds and the top half with the reflection. I think I like the bottom half best.
Mary MacADNski: It's an unusual shot for me but it was the only way I knew to get those dancing birds. I watched them every morning and they were so amazing. I see murmurations of blackbirds all through the autumn but these are different. They glide just above the ground, not up in the air.
I rather like this Mary though I think it might look better with the houses cropped out on the top and most of the greenery on the left. The blurriness works well as the birds stand out and the subtle colours are soothing. I think you have the makings of a very good picture here.
Ingrid
You can't pan without a blur. I believe you have a great result here. If you really want to crop, I believe you can take some sky and some foreground away.
Mary MacADNski: I don't thin I'd crop, really, was just concerned about the blur but you are absolutely correct in your first sentenced. It's an unusual shot for me but it was the only way I knew to get those dancing birds.
I think I can clearly feel why.
To like:
- birds are in focus (great panning you have done)
- the background is out of focus
- the reflection is cool
To dislike:
- better to zoom in the birds, they are only a small part of the image
- the background is still very visable, more blur would be welcome
- the reflection is not the main subject here
Anyway: very nice try.
Mary MacADNski: I like that kind of feedback. I put this photo up for that reason. I am always trying to learn something from the SC 'family'. thanks.
