photoblog image Sandhill Cranes - Red Head

Sandhill Cranes - Red Head

One more photo of the Sandhill Cranes that I saw each day while in Florida.  I said I would post one showing their red head patch. This is in quite a different light than the others, much less moody.

You don't have to be a red head to walk on An Island Walk.

The red gives them a lovely splash of colour
Mary MacADNski: You can see them a long way off.

Very elegant birds - they look like they are showing off their jaunty little red caps on the catwalk!
Ingrid
Mary MacADNski: Yes, models on the catwalk and fabulous dancers during their mating ritual....very hip birds.

That look amazing. nature can produuce some wonderful looking animals and birds yet also some ugly ones. These fall in to the former category, though!
Mary MacADNski: They are indeed lovely, very graceful for their size and with a very nice nature, wary but not afraid of the dog and me.
Nice couple! They look like friends smile
Mary MacADNski: They usually travel in pairs. A few weeks ago I showed their mating ritual.
They are rather splendid birds Mary
Mary MacADNski: They really are. They're a bit wary of humans, of course, but not scared or shy.
