Great photo they all seem to have a different personality
Mary MacADNski: As do we, vintage. Good thing too.
Are these juveniles with that coloring on the heads? nice catch.
Mary MacADNski: I'd say they are, Dawn. There were adults around too and a few ducks.

They like to be clean! Even with cold icy water for bath water! Wonderful shot, Mary smile
Mary MacADNski: They are braver than I am. Last week I was talking about NOT peeing in the woods.

Great capture Mary, the bird in the water is wearing a halo
Mary MacADNski: Yes, and it needs a halo for bathing in water that cold.

I wonder where they buy their deodorant and personal hygiene products?
Mary MacADNski: At Gullivers, of course, Ray.
Wonderful capture, Mary! Love the detail and all the different postures. I guess keeping their feathers in good order is pretty crucial for survival. (:o)
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Rosalyn. You can tell it is cold but they go ahead anyway. What you say is perfectly correct.
Great capture Mary. I like the line up with one of them at each side!
Mary MacADNski: I wish one hadn't been cut off but.... Thanks, Richard.
Its the one in the water that tickles me..I much prefer a warm shower..but they are enjoying it! Good capture.
Mary MacADNski: I have ducks in my pond and watch them bathe every day too. They are brave.

Its important to help them to keep warm. Mary. With matted feathers they can't fluff them up. Looks like one's having a bath
Mary MacADNski: Yes, one is bathing. The ducks in my pond do it daily too.
Some youngsters here by the look of it.
Mary MacADNski: Children and teens by the look of it, Bill.

They look like adolescents to me - half adult and half baby feathers! I am still puzzling over Alan's comment about the importance of helping to keep them warm - what exactly are you supposed to do?!
Ingrid
Mary MacADNski: I wondered about that too. This was in a park in Charlottetown. I have a pond and ducks on my property. I worry about them but won't start worrying about the gulls in town.

I can't imagine getting myself wet out in the open when it's freezing, they have more stamina than me!

As well as the general scene, the picture has lovely detail of late juvenile gulls, part way through the moult into adult plumage
Mary MacADNski: I watch the ducks in my pond do this each day and am always impressed with their stamina.
Fantastic shot!
Mary MacADNski: Thank you, Clare. I like how they look cold.

Is this shot you mentioned of ducks on ice? This looks even colder, I love the chick battening down for the cold with eyes shut - so cute! What a great moment to catch!
