I like the tree fungus thriving on the bark, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I'll put the other shot I got one day.
Great capture Mary. I love it!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richard.
Perhaps they couldn't keep up the mortgage payments.
Mary MacADNski: Times are tough.
Could the woodpecker do this Mary. Nice close up.
Mary MacADNski: I think it is a woodpecker or flicker but am not sure. There were two on the tree.

It's amazing to think that this is just done by a bird's beak. Well seen, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: They're amazing creatures.

You guys must have enormous carpenter bees on the island wink I wouldn't know a lot about birds in your neck of the woods, but wouldn't attribute such a big hole to a bird that rat-tat-tat after worms and stuff in the holes they (insects) have made. Can you imagine how many millions of taps? The poor bird must have double vision and scrambled brains smile But then I may be wrong and don't have the faintest what would carve wood up like that.

Well they (w)hole thing had me wondering and I looke it up, as we all know many animals and birds live in tree hollows. I came across this site: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/natbltn/500-599/nb581.htm

It doesn't solve who done it, but provides some insight.

Great picture and you had me researching smile
Mary MacADNski: It could definitely be a nesting area, hence the title. I welcome your start. I'll look at your site and ask around.
I wonder how the bird made the happy face in the back LOL! Lovely image, wonderful tones and textures.
Mary MacADNski: I had not noticed that before. Amazing!
I love the title smile
Mary MacADNski: I would like to know who plans to live there.
Well seen Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I love the forest more than any place, Albert.
Well spotted! And an amazing image...
Mary MacADNski: Thank you. The woods is my favorite place.
