We don't have moose on the Island so when I was in New Brunswick last week and my sister and I passed this gal on the side of the road we turned around, went back and I got a shot - with a camera. In October lots of people will be using guns.

Great capture Mary. Are there many of them that you have a shooting season or are there numbers in decline
Mary MacADNski: Actually moose are on the increase and deer are in decline. The hunt is well managed to keep good populations. Less deer licenses will be available and they may be buck only, leaving the females to bear more babies. They may increase the number of moose licences. My brother has his moose licence.
good stuff! great catch! Sad about the guns tho. We have plenty of hunters here-I'm not too in tune with them. I like to see these lovely animals running thru my yard, not the carcass left lying in a ditch, which often happens.
Mary MacADNski: I grew up in a family where hunting is for food, never sport. I've eaten deer meat and moose meat my whole life. Hunting would be more humane for this animal than what is in store for her.
My dad says she won't be living long. It is hard to tell in this photo but when zoomed it is easy to see that this moose is covered in ticks. One of his back legs is bleeding from them. They weaken the moose then affect it's brain. They lay down, weakened, and die. My dad says it is becoming very common.

Shame on them! What a magnificent but slightly strange animal. We don't have anything like them in Britain so I was very excited to see one standing by the side of the road whilst driving through a forest in New Hampshire.

Mary MacADNski: The males have huge antlers and they are quite a sight. It's funny, growing up they were commonplace. Now I get excited to see them too.
wow, cool.
Why anyone would shoot anything is beyond me . . . . .
Unless with a camera!!
Cheers

Mary MacADNski: The hunt is a means of controlling the populations. Moose cause many fatal automobile accidents When they are too numerous other problems occur. The hunt is for meat and not for sport at all.
