photoblog image Two Cruise Ships

Two Cruise Ships

Charlottetown gets many cruise ships in the autumn but I had never seen two in the harbour at one time.  I am shooting across a highway so this is not a great photo by any means.

Update:  I had this queued for today and today's TV news had a feature story about today being the first time three cruise ships were in the harbour. They expect that again next year.

We see lots of boats and harbours on An Island Walk.

Real big ones Mary - mainly from the States I guess?
Mary MacADNski: I believe they are both European and all three today were European.

Sure it's a great shot, Mary...how often does one see a big cruise boat balancing on a wire fence like that!
Mary MacADNski: It is such a magical place here.

very impressive ships Mary, they must bring a lot of tourist dollars
Mary MacADNski: They say each passenger spends an average of fifty dollars.
How many warfs does Charlottetown have for the cruise ships Mary? Do they have to queue up?
Mary MacADNski: They are making improvements for next year but for now ships two and three had to be ferried in on other boats.

Two ships of money
Mary MacADNski: They say each passenger spends an average of fifty dollars.
Going by the adverts in our newspapers there are dozens of these ships sailing the world, nice to see two together.
Mary MacADNski: I wish I'd known they were both there before I crossed the bridge in rush hour which made it too much of a hassle to go back.
To see this was a big day for everyone then Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Only one was in the harbour when I went to town but on my way home - two. It was a surprise.
You'll be overrun with tourists, Mary; you may even get my brother and his wife if you're especially unlucky! smile My city is the main cruise terminals for the UK: a few weekends ago we had 9 ships in.
Mary MacADNski: OMG! Nine ships is unreal! I live in the country so don't gedt much of the tourist traffic from the cruise ships but do from summer tourists.

I had a friend from Australia here on Saturday. She was in town on the day I took this shot to meet up with her friend who was on the second ship. I had met this woman before too and she was on PEI for the only time when I was in Australia. Funny, and small world.
I wouldnt mind being on one of them.
Mary MacADNski: Neither would I. My aunt just got back from Greece and Turkey.
To be a highway shot it's remarkably steady.
Mary MacADNski: I was standing across the highway. It's not shot from a moving car.
I would'nt mind having the money to go on one of them, however a new lens would come first for me, Something Expensive. lol
Mary MacADNski: I'd like a new computer - something expensive.
