photoblog image Flat-Headed Snake

Flat-Headed Snake

I had learned that PEI had only garter snakes.  This is not true, it turns out .  This is a flat-headed snake and is the same size as a common earth worm.  For a shot showing it's relative size check out this shot on another of my blogs.  It shows my friend holding a piece of straw beside the snake.

Incredible details. This guy must have been moving really fast! Thanks for the comparison link too!
Mary MacADNski: He wasn't moving until we almost stepped on it. It was warming itself on the pavement.

Very Attractive and sleek little guy.

In Thailand we have the Reticulated Python...the world's longest snake, recorded up to 10 metres...it could use this little guy as tooth floss.
Mary MacADNski: LOL. I'm afraid of them so would prefer to see the tooth floss.

When you check out the comparison shot, does not seem as intimidating an experience to happen upon one. I take it they are not poisonous
Mary MacADNski: It was a breakthrough for me and not intimidating. It can't swallow me whole, poison me, or strangle me to death.

Well spotted Mary - it really is a very small creature
Mary MacADNski: I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a baby but it is full grown. I'd never imagined such a thing.
nicely captured for something so small, and I am guessing.. fast??
Cheers
Rob
Mary MacADNski: No, not fast really. My friend pushed it off the road to keep it from being run over. When we passed it again on the way back from our walk, it had gone back to the road. It was warming itself.

Thanks to your blog, I'm no longer as terrified as I was before! I don;t think its going to coil round my leg before crushing me.
Mary MacADNski: It was a breakthrough for me too. It can't swallow me whole, poison me, or strangle me to death.

very cute but boy is he small
Mary MacADNski: Not like the ones from AU. I saw one my first morning there after being assured I would never see one in that area.
Looked at your other blog and he is very small, so well spotted.
Mary MacADNski: We thought it was an earthworm till it moved.
Lovely picture, so many details and yet so small.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Sheila. It was such a surprise.

How appearances can be deceptive! Looks like he's ready to strike. I never knew you had another blog, Mary - what a busy little bee you are!
Ingrid
Mary MacADNski: I have five blogs. I'm hyperactive so I need things to keep me busy.
What a cute little fella! Very nicely captured Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanke, Richard.

Not being a snake love when I first saw it i thought Yuk but when I saw it's size it wasn't so bad
Mary MacADNski: I am terrified of snakes but at first thought this was a worm. It was so tiny that I was able to stifle y fear and get up close and personal.
Very well spotted Mary..considering its size. Good one.
Mary MacADNski: We thought it was an earthworm till it moved.
All snakes give me the shivers.
Mary MacADNski: All snakes gave me shivers until this very one. I'm not sure if you visited the link but we thought it was an earthworm at first. It was a breakthrough for me. It can't swallow me whole, poison me, or strangle me to death.
Ideal size for a snake!
Mary MacADNski: How right you are! LOL
Oooh, dangerous!
Mary MacADNski: Did you check out the link to see the actual size? You may be surprised.
Thanks for pointing out the link. I'm not afraid anymore smile
Mary MacADNski: It changed something for me. I walked 14 km. today and saw two dead snakes. They come to the road to warm themselves and get run over. the two I say today were regular garter snakes, not the little flat heads.
Ditto the comment from vintage, it really is small though isn't it.
Mary MacADNski: Did you look at the link, Brian? It is really tiny.
