This appears to be a long established beaver dam. I'm not sure if it is still inhabited. We plan to go here again and perhaps I might talk to someone who might know.

Mary MacADNski: It's a wonderful place and in two days we saw only a man and his dog rushing through. It is hardly used at all.
Perfectly composed autumn shot.
Perfectly composed shot of the beaver dam, too.
I'd never given beavers more than a passing thought before, now I have to go looking for information. Wikipedia and Google - here I come!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Sheila. Beaver's are imprinted on Canada's five cent piece and are certainly a symbol of this country.
Mary, what a beautiful picture of a beaver pond. What you have here is a lodge, the den the beavers live in. I would love to see the dam that's holding all that water in.We have a non-profit that works to save beavers.

Mary MacADNski: There are two large ponds and the beavers are working on creating more. We have lots of beavers on the island. Some are live-trapped to be moved when they flood roadways or damage bridges.
