photoblog image The Picton Castle

The Picton Castle

Just getting around to posting this now though it was taken the middle of August.  I was at the beach one day and this vessel, the tall ship barque, Picton Castle, rounded the point. There is a small dark sailing vessel directly in front of the big ship.

The Picton Castle is a sail training tall ship and their website can describe themselves much better than I can.   The Picton Castle

On An Island Walk  we see beaches, boats and birds.

A thrill!

The kind of thing that kick-starts the imagination, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I remember a similar ship in AU that young people joined to learn to sail.

It looks a very grand craft Mary
Mary MacADNski: It was involved in news story a few years ago when a sailing student fell overboard and drowned. She was the daughter of a well known hockey executive which made it doubly newsworthy.
These tall ships are a wonderful sight.
Mary MacADNski: We sometimes have huge gatherings of them in Halifax, Nova Scotia or other locations.

Always wanted to go sailing on a tall ship, never even been on a normal yacht
Mary MacADNski: I've been on a ton of boats but not a tall ship either. They do have tours when the tall ships are gathered.
How exciting Mary! You captured it perfectly.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richard. I got quite a few shots but it was far away and a lot were blurry.

Amazing Mary what a wonderful sightsmile
Mary MacADNski: It was such a surprise and a welcome one at that.
I do like these ships Mary..I can imagine them coming back in service, if one day we run out of fuel. Well seen.
Mary MacADNski: My late father in law worked on cargo sailing ships as a boy and got a lifelong love of the sailboat.

What a wonderful capture
Mary MacADNski: It was quite a surprise from the usual boats you watch when you're at the beach.

I like the birds in this; they make almost like a frame to the ships. I don't mind a sailimg boat as long as there is a crew to look after the sails and great big diesil engine to assist when needed!
Mary MacADNski: This is the only shot I got that had the birds in it. Engines are indeed great in sail boats. I've been stuck in doldrums when you just wanted to get on with it.
What a lovely picture Mary, and how lucky you were to be in the right place at the right time. The seagulls just add to the whole scene.
Mary MacADNski: Right on cue, the gulls arrived. This is the only shot I got that had the birds in it.
An excellent shot Mary, and there really is a Picton Castle which you will find more about at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picton_Castle
Mary MacADNski: I had assumed it was named after a real castle and now you've shown me for sure.
Beautiful capture Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Linda.
Lovely Mary. It transports us to a bygone age.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks. It does suggest that.
nice shot, romantic image, almost to the limit of a dream
apologize for my English
Mary MacADNski: Thank you for coming by. I appreciate it. No apologies needed here.
