I raised ducks in my pond during the eighties. The seven that naturally hatched here this year have been back for the weekend before they fly south or..... maybe they'll stay.
These are not the ducks from my pond but from a local sanctuary that I hike on occasion. I was there twice this past autumn. A wonderful hiking spot.

When I started reading I thought you have quite a pond - then read the rest
Looks to be a nice spot, yes.
Mary MacADNski: It has been a sanctuary for probably a hundred years. It is a wonderful spot. I do have a great pond full of ducks though - ok seven at the moment.
I love the way the sunlight is picking out the irridescent green on the central duck. A haven indeed.

Mary MacADNski: Mallards with their iridescent heads are so beautiful. They are my favorite ducks and held a fascination for me since I was a child because of their heads.
Looks like autumn is nearly gone. Hope the ducks go to a warmer place.
Mary MacADNski: This was indeed at the end of autumn. It was the first hike I wore gloves. A good percentage of mallards and black ducks stay here for the winter and don't fly south.
It's great to have places like this where you can hike to and enjoy the natural beauty. We have a man-made sanctuary within walking distance in our suburban neighborhood and it has become home for all sorts of wildlife which provides endless opportunities for the camera buff.
Do you have lots of baby ducks there in the warmer weather, Mary?
Mary MacADNski: I pretty well always get baby ducks on the pond. I had seven babies this year. I raised them there for years but now just wild ducks come.
Ducks can be the mainstay of many a good walk / hike.
Cheers
Rob
