Same pond as shown in yesterday's shot with the ice a flat sheet sporting a frosty dusting on top. Yesterday's shot was taken Monday afternoon. This was Wednesday afternoon. Now, Thursday morning, that hole has opened up and most of this ice is melted. With rising temperatures, it will be gone tomorrow. No skating this year.

i will be dreaming of this over the weekend as we head in to scorching temperatures
Mary MacADNski: We've had mild temps all winter, not enough to freeze the ground - or the pond. It will be a few months before we have scorching temps again though.
Same here as with you, Mary. We have seen lots of skating on the canals here the last couple weeks but with temps just above freezing the next few days, I'm afraid it won't be safe much longer...unless we have another cold snap?
Mary MacADNski: I missed skating so much I went to the rink on Sunday. I ended up not skating as it was really hurting my hip but it was not the same at all as being on the pond.
You are embracing nature. I love you for that. Peace will return soon, and the thaw will be on you before you know.
Mary MacADNski: I love to be outside in nature, especially the woods. Most Islanders identify with the beaches but I prefer trees and ponds and grasses. I should have been born a Druid.
Very nice shot Mary. You sound almost dissapointed that your winter is not as hard as usual.
Mary MacADNski: Actually, cold temperatures are very good for certain things like controlling insect populations and invasive species. We need a good freeze for many reasons.
Is it hotter than other years?. In Spain, December and January have been very rainy and cold. Where I live it snows and that's rare, very rare. In the UK, are having a winter very, very cold. More and more noticeable climate change. Pardon my English, I use google translate, I hope you understand. A greeting.
Mary MacADNski: It has been warmer and there has been less snow this year. I miss skating on my pond.
I did not realize you did not speak English so I will use a translator as well.
Ha sido más cálido y ha habido menos nieve de este año. Echo de menos patinaje en mi estanque.
No me di cuenta que no hablan Inglés, así que va a utilizar un traductor, así.
The ice may be back, Mary, though, perhaps? I'm sure winter is not over yet in PEI by any means. It's been cold here too, rare these days for central southern England. It''s a bit like the winters we used to have near enough every year when I was much younger.
Mary MacADNski: It is not over by a long shot. February and March can be horrid months of storms and cold. The seasons have changed overall but every once in a while we get an old fashioned winter.
