Cold Geese

A soon as I stopped my car, these geese began their retreat.  Again, like a warm winter a few years ago, some birds have decided to overwinter here rather than migrate to warmer climates.  I've specifically noticed large numbers of starlings who have stayed.

we don't have any overwintering here, it was so cold for so long. Finally warming up. Before they all left town, we'd see them in the farmer's field across the way, but never close enough that I could get a good shot.
Mary MacADNski: It is -8 today and has been cool like this for a day or two but we're going back to -2 and 3 tomorrow. Unusual and no big snow storms yet. There was one but it turned to rain.

Your weather forecasters are certainly telling you there will be a mild winter, then, Mary.

Migratory birds know their mete[o]rology...
Mary MacADNski: Except for some who wish during some severe February storm that they'd not made such a silly decision.

Love your definition of a warm winter, smile
Mary MacADNski: You'd really laugh at our definition of a hot summer.

I wonder if birds are better a predicting the weather than our met. offices? We were told that we would have a "milder than normal winter"; turned out that we've had the coldest for 30 years!
Mary MacADNski: I don't think anyone is very good at predicting weather. I have seen birds become stranded in ice and feel sorry for birds that stay then have a difficult time surviving.
I presume that animals can foresee the weather in a better way than our meteorologists!
Fine capture Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I think some do but some have been caught here is terrible winters.
If your neighbor in the South does not make a serious policy to alleviate the effects of pollution, you are going to be very difficult to return to normal sad.
Mary MacADNski: You are absolutely correct but our prime minister is much like our neighbour and not moving very fast.
I'm with Zed.. looks ccccccold to me...
but understand the underlying concern of the comment..
Rob
Mary MacADNski: It wasn't that cold. The ice was melting.
Still a good shot despite the retreat Mary. Have you noticed how our Australian friends can't quite concieve the idea of cold winters smile
Mary MacADNski: I went to college with a girl who had come to the Maritimes in an arranged marriage. She came from Malasia and had no idea what to expect. She sat in the classroom all winter with sweaters, mittens, a hat and a scarf. I felt very sorry for her.
I like the layers you have captured
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Nigel. I would like to say it an unusual image but a few more years like this it will be common.
I agree with Nigel. As I scrolled down the shot, it was looking empty - then the geese appeared and it became a well composed shot smile
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Pamela. Had to capture this fairly unusual occurrence.
The weather is all over the place, but even for a milder winter with you it still looks cold.
Mary MacADNski: The ice was melting here.
This is rather unusual, Mary. Glad you were able to capture the scene so beautifully.
Mary MacADNski: I think it may become more common, sadly.
These geese so pretty, are not in Spain. I really like the composition of the picture, also the blue ice.
Mary MacADNski: Our Canada Geese are in Europe but not everywhere. They are not usually here at this time of year. Thanks for coming by and looking.

Nuestro gansos de Canadá se encuentran en Europa, pero no en todas partes. No suelen ser aquí, en esta época del año. Gracias por venir y mirar.

love this
Mary MacADNski: Thank you xavi. The colour is fairly dull in the winter but you see interesting things.

Gracias Xavi. El color es bastante aburrido en el invierno, pero se ven cosas interesantes.
They look quite content out there. I wish we were having a warm winter wink
Mary MacADNski: They wer content until I stopped my car. LOL If I could, I'd fly south.
