Safety in numbers
Mary MacADNski: Yes, look what was behind them - a camera toting granny.
Optical illusion here
Mary MacADNski: That's it. Heat waves are visible in the right conditions.

Very interesting Mary: an intriguing but very pleasing composition
Mary MacADNski: I took several shots and they are all like this.
You did well by capturing this optical illusion Mary!
Mary MacADNski: It proceeded my favorite photo of the year. I left my camera in my son's car and walked behind the girls holding my grandson's hand. He captured this.

I like this Mary, looks like they have just walked unscathed out of a natural disaster. I must be in a melodramatic mood this morning ;o)
Mary MacADNski: This is an unusual shot in that you don't see girls dressed like this in most communities in the world. It is out of place and these girls and their families could indeed survive a natural disaster.

Before I read your title, Mary, I thought it was a Photoshop twiddle! A strange effect indeed and an eerily odd picture too. Well spotted. Beware camera-toting grannies!

Mary MacADNski: Each of my shots showed the heat wave phenomenon. They proceeded my favorite photo of the year. I left my camera in my son's car and walked my grandson home in his muddy pants. My son captured this:

There's something very soulful about this image, Mary. Do I guess correctly that this is a school uniform worn by these girls? They almost look Amish! If you had cropped out the green bank in the background, this would almost look apocalyptic.
Mary MacADNski: These are Mennonite girls in their community last Easter Sunday. I believe Astrid has some knowledge here. My son lives in a Mennonite area. This shot proceeded my favorite photo of the year. I left my camera in my son's car and walked behind the girls holding my grandson's hand. He captured this.

Shimmering heat waves..distorting the picture...Good one Mary.
Mary MacADNski: This effect showed on each shot.
cool, it really did add a cool effect
Cheers
Rob
Mary MacADNski: Each shot I took showed this effect.

Well captured Mary. smile
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Linda
What's this heat you talk about? grin

Nice shot Mary
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Bill. We are getting a bit of that elusive sun here on Saturday and Sunday. We are getting much needed rain now.
Is that something as old-fashioned as a school uniform? Pleasing image!

Love this one, Mary. I pity the poor girls, though, who have to dress so warmly on such a schorcher.
Mary MacADNski: They dress this way year round as they are girls in a Mennonite community.
It is a most unusual effect Mary, but how good to see children in a school uniform these days.

Mary MacADNski: I was amazed that it was able to be captured actually.
I get thirsty looking at this photo!! You have captured this phenomenon really well!!
Mary MacADNski: I did not think it would actually show so am glad I took the chance.

An effect I associate more with desert regions, Mary! Are they schoolgirls?
Mary MacADNski: They are Mennonite girls on Easter Sunday last year. It was a warm sunny day.

Penguins, waddling off for a long day of fishing...
Mary MacADNski: LOL Not quite. Country life in another time perhaps?
The effect is somewhat disturbing, it seems as if something were to happen.
Mary MacADNski: Nothing happened thankfully.
