photoblog image Bev and His Buoys

Bev and His Buoys

I posted a shot of someone's buoys yesterday and some people were unfamiliar with them. This is a set from Bev, a local fisherman whose buoys I showed two years ago.  Buoys mark lobster traps and have to be brightly coloured so that fishermen like Bev can see them in all kinds of weather. Fishermen set their traps on the first day of May and many will be eating a fresh catch on the second.

I would imagine it would be hard to miss those buoys.
Mary MacADNski: In moving seas from a moving boat it can be difficult. These bright colours certainly help.

I remember the other shot smile But it had no proud owner.
Mary MacADNski: I had another the next day I think of his helper and a friend. I always liked that one because I told them I was about to make them famous (just like I said to Bev) and they had a big laugh (just like Bev).

Very interesting Mary: over here lobster is a very expensive dish
Mary MacADNski: It's expensive here too but a bit less than it is for you, I'm sure.
The thought of fresh lobster or crab sets my mouth watering!
Mary MacADNski: My son usually gets me some for Mother's day. Yum yum!
Another great shot Mary.

Living in a small fishing town, we see lots of these buoys. They always make great photos because of their colours and because they are usually in a mass. Here they often use bright strong beach-type balls, each encased in a net. If you want to see, I'm sure there are pictures in my SC archive in the Fishing Folder.
Mary MacADNski: We do have the round ones too but the lobster fishermen don't use them. Could be the cost.

people have no idea how hard it is to see small buoys in any sea other than dead flat
Mary MacADNski: You've got the idea. It is really hard to see them in any weather.
again, the color stands out

Have a good weekend!
Mary MacADNski: That's a good thing. You have a good weekend too, Chantal.
Great capture Mary. Bev will certainly not loose his buoys!
Mary MacADNski: I hope he doesn't. It will be great for the season to start.
It looks like some hard work ahead, nice shot Mary smile
Mary MacADNski: Bet he's dying to get out there.

I like the weathered doors on the huts; interesting to see the door taken off its hinges.
Mary MacADNski: I hadn't noticed that.
Great colours!! By the looks of the thumb I thought I was gonna open a picture of a truckload of colour manipulated pumpkins!!
Mary MacADNski: No manipulations from me other than straightening horizons and the occasional one button boost on Picasa.

Mary MacADNski: That is right. I forgot.
Not only an interesting shot Mary but I like his reaction to you, one of great friendliness.
Mary MacADNski: He has modeled for me before. I've shot him and others at the wharf more than once.

Mary MacADNski: That is a big draw for me.

Bev also looks like someone who enjoys PEI, Mary.
