This was taken on Thursday, one day before the setting of lobster traps to begin our spring lobster season. Today (May 1st as I write this), there will be plenty of Islanders having their first taste. Many, like myself, will get their first taste next weekend, on Mother's Day.

Mary MacADNski: Crayfish in North America aren't salt water creatures but come from brackish fresh water in the southern states of the US. I've had plenty of those and they're not really alike. Lobster is sweet and saltier.
Lucky for me, Mary, I had lobster and steak at my daughter's house on Friday...my first lobster in I don't remember when! Now my mouth is watering again!
Mary MacADNski: Sounds wonderful! I'm waiting patiently for Sunday.
Mary MacADNski: Setting day is quite an event in some communities. The wharves will fill with people early in the morning to see the fishermen off at first light.
Ah yes, you celebrate your Mother's Day to a different time to us. Looks like some lobster pots are already in the water? Or are they waiting for their load?
Mary MacADNski: We celebrate the second Sunday in May. The men in the empty boat are waiting for the rest of their crew to help with loading the boats, I'd say. Each boat fills and unloads two or three times during the setting.
So many lobster pots, Mary. It will be a great catch if they can fill them all. Was this shot taken in the Rustico area?
As for your Mother's Day feast, I am green with envy. Enjoy!!!
Mary MacADNski: I'm lucky as my son gives me lobster and my daughter's best friend give some. She works on a lobster boat. You've got to have muscles for that!
