photoblog image Geese in Spring

Geese in Spring

I have ducks in my pond but the pond of some friends in the area get geese.  Here are four that were hanging out when I drove by this week.

We walk around geese very carefully on An Island Walk.

Beautiful animals...posing very nicely for you, too, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: The males were making sure I was not going to harm the females.

They look very alert Mary
Mary MacADNski: They were relaxed till I stopped my car.
You do live in a lovely place Mary. You seem to have it all where you live.
Mary MacADNski: It should be named Paradise.
And they have arranged themselves nice and symmetrically for you Mary smile
Mary MacADNski: They were all sitting till I stopped the car. The two males stood immediately. It's their job to protect their women.

Lovely looking birds Mary
Mary MacADNski: They are beautiful but not friendly at all.
Springtime is the time to see these animals
Mary MacADNski: Yes, they stop for a time at this time of year.
Didn't they pose well for you Mary..Couldn't be better.
Mary MacADNski: They are very wary of strangers and were on alert.

Good capture great looking birds
Mary MacADNski: This expanded family comes back to this spot every year.
I like it that hey are all looking the same way.
Mary MacADNski: I do too. I had s shot a month or so ago with heads lined up and one looking up, if you remember. That was a neat one.
Nice to see the males so protective of the females. I wonder if it is too early yet for the eggs to be hatched.

Really like the way they lined up for this picture, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: The males are very protective. They hatching will be fairly soon.
You just need a pond in your area and sit and wait. Nicely captured
Mary MacADNski: Not really. I get some occasionally for a visit but my pond holds ducks and herons, muskrats and frogs.
Probably a private smoking club smile
Mary MacADNski: Two pairs. I have a private smoking club of mallard drakes some years though. This year I have a few nesters.

I love Canadian Geese, they are so beautiful!! Whoever designed those has great taste!!
Mary MacADNski: They are very beautiful but people in some parts of the world would call them huge pests. They are messy in large numbers and have been found in some US cities congregating around parks and ponds and making a mess.
Good capture Mary, they look lovely, but as I read they are not friendly, best at a safe distancesmile
Mary MacADNski: Today's shot of the fellow on the river with the geese is scary. Geese are dangerous and can easily break your arm or leg. Definitely safer at a distance.
Excellent framing and they pose so "professional"!
Very nice!
Mary MacADNski: They were far enough away for safety.
