I don't recall ever making a mushroom sighting like this, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I've seen them many times but a friend identified it for me. Morel is a wonderful culinary mushroom and this is false morel, which is poisonous. I have picked morels and would not confuse the two, luckily.

Oooh - I though for one moment that someone had inadvertently left their brains on the lawn!
Mary MacADNski: It is brain shaped and shades of dark brown. Ooh, with your humour you could make an Election Day joke here for Gordon Brown.

Thats a mushroom...? edible
Mary MacADNski: It is not edible but is a mushroom. Very early.
Best to say it is a mush room, it looks like something else to me at first sight
Mary MacADNski: I had not thought of that til you mentioned it.
I agree with Chantal. I thought it was...well you can guess... smile
Mary MacADNski: Ha ha! Truly I had never considered that.
A mushroom Mary..you could have fooled me!..Lol at the comments though.
Mary MacADNski: It was the first of the season for a photo.
LOL, Mary. I had the same thought initially as Chris & David both. However on closer inspection, I can see that it is indeed a mushroom, albeit, false.

Is it difficult to tell the edible one from the poisonous one?
Mary MacADNski: I wouldn't mistake this for a real morel, having picked morels. I pick chanterelles and am confident in my identification of them. I only know a few.

LOL at Chris' comment. It does look kinda yuck smile
Mary MacADNski: There were lots of them and they were beautiful really.
I agree with Chris.

"Darling, I think you left your brain on the lawn"

"How stupid of me. I would forget my head if it wasn't screwed on"
Mary MacADNski: LOL. Must be a politician's brain.
I like taking fungi pictures but no way would I eat a mushroom unless it came from a supermarket shelf.
Mary MacADNski: I know a few that I am confident enough to pick. I would never mistake this for a real morel.
That's very early for mushrooms, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I thought so too. Maybe they are a spring mushroom.
Fascinating photo, with so many possible other interpretations.
I'm with Brian on this about buying mushrooms at the supermarket. . I won't even buy mushrooms at the market!
Mary MacADNski: I'm satisfied to know a few well enough to not worry. I would never personally confuse this with a real morel, having picked morels before.
oh cool. that is certainly a strange looking shroom smile
Mary MacADNski: It is and it seems early to me but maybe these are spring mushrooms.
I see Gordon Brown's brain jokes are already featuring. That is silly because this is far too big to be a politician's brain
Mary MacADNski: I wished I had thought of the election while uploading. LOL
What an extraordinary looking mushroom Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Isn't it fabulous. There was a large patch of them.
?????? Curious. I've never seen a mushroom like that. A bientôt VAL
Mary MacADNski: It is called a false morel and is not edible.
Oups! I forgot, very nice photo. A+ VAL
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Val.
