photoblog image City Lupins

City Lupins

PEI is known for the wild lupins that bloom in the ditches in June. The best examples I have this year are not in ditches but in a friend's city garden.  The warm winte seems to have resulted in a less outstanding bloom this year.

They look very pretty against that picket fence, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: The fence is probably painted by now and even prettier.
Lupins always look lovely, Mary, and these look good enough to me.
Mary MacADNski: The ones that have bloomed look normal. It is just that there are not great numbers like there are usually.

Love this pic Mary! Nicely done..
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richa.
Nice shot!
We have plenty of these beautiful plants here too!
Mary MacADNski: They like cold winters, I believe. I think their seeds have to freeze.
Large numbers of them also bloom wild along the Swedish motorways - can't get them to grow in my garden, however, I think the slugs love them too much!
Mary MacADNski: I have them on the hill of my driveway and they were fine but I noticed less than usual in some spots.
They are delightful Mary.
Mary MacADNski: They light up the countryside here in June.
Wow!!! A beautiful luminous picture. J'aime beaucoup.
A+ VAL smile
Mary MacADNski: Thanks so much, Val.

They make a great picture with the yellow pickets in the background.
Mary MacADNski: The fence is new and painted except for this section. They are waiting for the lupins to finish.
What a wonderful display Mary.
Light and tones are superb!
Mary MacADNski: This was mid-afternoon on a sunny day. It was beautiful sitting in my friend's garden.
Either wild or growing in a garden, lupins are a delight for the eye, Mary.
The last time I was in P.E.I., I managed to get a shot of some old fashion hollyhocks which were growing against a red painted house in Charlottetown; an image very much like this charming one of yours.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Beverly. How long has it been since you've been home?

Still very attractive, though, Mary. The fence sts them off well.
Mary MacADNski: I still had lots in the ditches by my house and in my driveway but I notices they were scarce in other spots.
I like lupins, setting off the smart new fence.
Mary MacADNski: They have to wait on painting it until the lupins are finished. the rest of the fence is painted.
I love lupins but simply cannot grow them
Mary MacADNski: I am thinking they may need freezing over winter. They want lots of moisture too.
Certainly brightens the fence up, they grow so quickly and everywhere that they have spread to my blog toogrin
Mary MacADNski: I certainly missed them being so widespread this year. Who knew they needed the usual freezing, snowy winter.
I like this one! smile
Mary MacADNski: I an pleased you do. Thank you.
Good shot Mary. I like the way the blooms stand tall and straight like the fence.
Mary MacADNski: I like that about it too. Thanks.
