Pownal Grain Harvest

The grain harvest has been happening for a few weeks now.  Combines scatter the fields and roads.  I'm a commuter in the early morn when very large ones cause traffic delays. It can be a bit frustrating.

On the way home at various times of the evening, I get to take a more leisurely pace and stop for some shots.

OK, I admit it. Some of our walks are drives on An Island Walk.

We saw this in France, Mary, and are also seeing it in Holland now. It's that time of the year. I love your POV on this and wonder if a bit of farm is in all of us, no matter how far removed from it we may be.
Mary MacADNski: Notice I work in the city but have no city photos. I'm a country girl at heart.

This looks like a good healthy crop Mary
Mary MacADNski: The farmers have absolutely no complaints this year, Chris. We've had perfect weather and rain has been coming only on the overnight which is more than perfect.
This is a time of the year I love, Mary. Generous, bountiful, golden - all captured in this beautiful image. (:o)
Mary MacADNski: I love it too.
Next thing you know it will be snowing!
Mary MacADNski: Sssshhhhhh!!!!!!
a drunk farmer... couldn't stay straight
Mary MacADNski: You never know...

He obviously never learned to stay within the lines smile
Mary MacADNski: Perhaps he's doing that for the photographers.

Now what surprises be about this is the lack of a straight line; I thought these days, they were all guided by GPS and it's virtually hands-free. Still, it makes for a better photo, though!

Sorry to hear about your travel delays caused by these. Living and working in city, I get all sorts of other delays, though! I'm lucky, in any case, as I'm generally going against the traffic flows and I start early in any case.
Mary MacADNski: I have no idea why it's not straight. It may be for the benefit of the photog.

I don't like the delays but they don't happen often. I always leave early enough anyway.
Well, you commute through lovely landscapes Mary!! Nice capture
Mary MacADNski: It is a delightful route.

Delightful scene Mary smile
Mary MacADNski: I agree, Tracy.
A lovely scene for this time of the year Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Yes, it is!
I would love to sit and watch this going on, especially in the lovely sunshine you have smile
Mary MacADNski: It is a delight to watch.
Another reminder that autumn is nearly upon us. Next month the Harvest Festivals start. This is a great shot.
Mary MacADNski: It's still summer yet!
The harvest and it looks like the right weather to go with it Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Excellent weather! It's been a wonderful growing season all around.
Wonderful capture of the grain harvest. Love the warm colours in this shot. I can understand your frustration in encountering these combines on the road, Mary, as they present a real danger if you try to pass them when it is so hard to see oncoming traffic. Best to just wait until you have an unobstructed view, even if it means you'll be late for work.
Mary MacADNski: I'm used to it after being here 34 years. It just means tie ups with regular commuters who leave the same time every day. Me, 7:10 - 7:15, for instance can get delayed with a ten km line up behind a humongous combine. The ones in these fields were little ones.

Totally gorgeous!

I own one of those things, Mary...bought it to help Na's family set up a contract rice harvesting business.
Mary MacADNski: Making merit are you?
Looks as though the harvest has been a good one, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: It's been an excellent growing season all around.
Nice to see next years bread/ceral being harvested mary.
Mary MacADNski: breakfast!
