photoblog image A Feast Day

A Feast Day

It is Thanksgiving Day here in Canada.  This was my centerpiece sometime in the fall last year, maybe even last year's Thanksgiving dinner. I'm working the holiday but having dinner on Sunday.

Strangely, this year our leaves have only begun to change.  Photos from elsewhere in the Maritimes and in New England show that leaves have changed at the normal time but ours are certainly delayed.

Mary MacADNski: You could probably use the moisture in the ground. Fire season is coming.

A rich and very welcoming palette, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Very seasonal colours in our area.

Happy Thanksgiving Day, Mary! Great photo - you can make this a card.
The leaves here too haven't changed so much yet. I've a feeling that they will drop to the ground before that happens.
Mary MacADNski: We had heavy winds for four days which ripped green leaves off the trees. The trees are looking battered and bruised and are just beginning their autumn transformation.

Happy thanksgiving Mary, you might be in for a warmer winter than usual
Mary MacADNski: Last winter broke all records for just that.
Beautiful, Mary. Enjoy your dinner.

We Skyped with Astrid's brother (who lives on Vancouver Island) on Saturday and he was having two different feast days with friends, on Saturday and Sunday. Lucky stiff! smile I love your centerpiece...so simple and to the point!
Mary MacADNski: Cheap too. A glass plate piled with leaves.
very good autumn colours!

My brother told me about the Thanksgiving, he was invited by some friends and they prepared a real traditional dinner, he told me, it will take all week to wear it off.
This is a wonderful centerpiece, love the 'maple leaf', wonderful colours.
The leaves are starting to change here now too.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks Astrid. The leaves are just starting here - much later than usual. Do you have a thanksgiving day?

oops..forgot.
Happy Thanksgiving Day, Mary.
You are clearly a patriot Mary.
Mary MacADNski: No, the earth mother type. Why run to a store when I can run to a tree.

A wonderful photograph Mary. A great subject with excellent color.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Shaun. The autumn light is golden.
Happy Thanks giving Day Mary.
The tones and light are superb!
Lovely light, nice shot.
Mary MacADNski: I liked that light too.

Oh Mary this is beautiful, the lighting and the autumn colours, just beautiful
Mary MacADNski: Thank you so much, Tracy.
It is odd that the leaves have only begun to change on the Island, Mary. I remember being there in other years during October and found the foliage to be spectacular.

Your centerpiece captures the atmosphere of Thanksgiving and the season perfectly.
Mary MacADNski: It really is strange. They are beginning now though and I am heading for the woods in half an hour.
Have a good thanksgiving Mary...well on Sunday anyway
Mary MacADNski: Thanks. It's Thursday now and it was all a blur.
A very nice table piece Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks. Simple and can be thrown together in a minute - after the requisite walk amongst the trees.

Beautiful image we have also been out and about looking for Autumn and we appear to be on time at the moment. Happy Thanksgiving. It is ours tomorrow at the shool.
Mary MacADNski: I am amazed at the lateness of the leaves this year. We've had heavy frost the last two nights so it will happen quickly now.

I assumed you had the same Thanksgiving Day as the USA, Mary; no idea why, though! Our leaves have still not turned yet; it;s still like summer here.

I like the colours in this very much and the light coming in from the left.

If I'm being picky, the chair(?) top right just catches my eye
Mary MacADNski: Our leaves are just beginning. I am off in a half hour for a hike through the woods. I don't change my photos and the chair was there but I could take it out.
