Sunning Cormorants

I've finally caught up and have posted a few shots from Nova Scotia taken last summer on a visit to my daughter.

Unlike here on Shutterchance, on An Island Walk the photos are all from PEI.

Wow, talking about a room with a few, this is the penthouse of the harbour if you ask me..
Wonderful picture, great colours.
Mary MacADNski: There are dozens of nests at this site.

A precarious nesting place - but I suppose this is what they do Mary
Mary MacADNski: They are strange birds, so loving to congregate on any type of pole or platform and make nests there too.

Not scared of splinters are they smile
Mary MacADNski: Ir anything, really. They have to leave their perches when the tide gets high at some places.
What a wonderful capture, Mary. And what a precarious place to build a nest! (:o)
Mary MacADNski: That is their way. There were dozens of nests here......in a no stopping situation - signs averywhere - Gulp!
Excellent family portrait Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Monsieur.
Well, archives are nice to be opened
Mary MacADNski: The trip to Nova Scotia was swell!

A preening moment in a busy bird's life.
Mary MacADNski: Tes, though at least they're already dry and aren't drying their wings.

It amazes me they would build a nest there, Mary, without shelter. Is that normal, I wonder? Still, it's a delightful shot.
Mary MacADNski: There were several nests here. I'll post another shot at the end of whatever I have preposted, which will probably be Sunday.

That nest seem very tempoary
Mary MacADNski: It's one of a large colony.
Our local Trout fishermen hate them because they spear and injure more than they catch.
That said great image.
Mary MacADNski: I get upset when they go on a winter vacation, away from the coast. They come stay on my large freshwater pond - and clean it out in a couple of days. They then leave.
Great photo, Mary. In fact, I think its a fun photo, even if it was serious business for the birds.
Mary MacADNski: They are interesting and yes funny, especially when they dry their wings. They look prehistoric!
Excellent shot, Mary - looks like an adult and a couple of young?
Mary MacADNski: There were dozens of nests here on the poles and on a couple of trees.
What an amazing place to build a nest. Super shot Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I'll post another from there in s couple of days.

Oh dear; the nest looks a little lop-sided; let's hope that the little ones did not end up in the water too soon!
Mary MacADNski: There were dozens of families there to help out.
Very crisp.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Graeme.
A precarious place to build a nest. You would think that the first puff of wind would blow it off
Mary MacADNski: They're pretty cool. I'll post another one in a few days.
Seems a dodgy place to put a house.
Mary MacADNski: It was a whole community. Cormorants always nest like this - brave or stupid!
Didn't think the nest would be exposed like that. The baby seems to have different colouring than the parents. I wonder what happens to that bit of orange as they mature.
Mary MacADNski: I think it just a matter of light and shade that one is a different colour. The babes are grown by now in this shot. I can'r seem to find information on the colour of the beak.
