Nice collection!
Mary MacADNski: They are very proud of it, I'm sure.

I suppose it's a matter of life & death for them Mary
Mary MacADNski: It is. What they get at my bird feeders certainly helps too.
Never seen that before, do they leave them there?
Mary MacADNski: Snow always melts around the tree trunks first so they become a good storage spot. They have piles everywhere there is shelter from snow.

Wow, did they do that?
Mary MacADNski: Yes, they have piles everywhere, all ready for the coming snow.
Could do with them in my garden its covered in falled apples this year,I leave them for the Black Birds to slowly devour when the cold weather comes.
Mary MacADNski: They get covered deep in snow here and the squirrels know this. They gather them to places they know they will be available.
will this become jelly, or apple pie... for Thanksgiving maybe...
Mary MacADNski: They feed the squirrels during deep winter.

Try to get a picture of a squirrel squirreling an apple. Where do they put it?
Mary MacADNski: They've picked them up from the wide area under the tree to against the trunk where you see it in the photo.
Clever squirrels!
Mary MacADNski: They are! Usually there are big piles of cones down there too. It is quite a sheltered area on the property.

Most unusual, Mary. I've read all your replies and am stunned that I've never seen or heard about this before. So educational. Makes sense, too.
Mary MacADNski: It's good to learn, learn and learn - every day. Glad I could provide some fodder.
A bit of a strange site to see if you never knew it was squirrels, clever little things smile
Mary MacADNski: They are very smart that way. I have a few sites around the property where they store things.
Before I even read your description, Mary, I thought that it looked like the work of squirrels. Nice.
Mary MacADNski: Unmistakable unless other animals do it too.
I hadn't thought of them doing things like this Mary, I live and learn.
Mary MacADNski: It wouldn't be a good day if I knew I hadn't learned anything.
I didn't know that Mary..Clever little things.
Mary MacADNski: They are clever and very stupid in ways. I could tell you stories.....
Amazing how much stuff there is in the wild!
Mary MacADNski: I am OVERRUN with squirrels!
They are such industrious little thievestongue
Mary MacADNski: and I am overrun with them. I must say, I don't like them at all. They eat tons of bird seed.
Tidy lot of squirrels round your way, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: LOL That is one way to look at it.

If that was around here it would be the hunters puting them out for the deer.
Mary MacADNski: Exactly! There might be those cute sights of a squirrel and a deer eating together. You never know.
