photoblog image Fields and Fields

Fields and Fields

The back field seems to have been hay mowed a week before the one in the center.  The potato plants in back are in flower and I'm not sure what is in the foreground field but think it is rutabagas or turnips as they're commonly called here.

As usual, love the layers so common in your wonderful agriscapes, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Ray. Acreages are divided up for crop rotation. Sometimes the layers result from that.
Ahhh...I can feel the sunshine and it feels good! What a lovely picture to look at on a gray, wet. cold day! Love the green, green and green. All different, all green. Wonderful!
Mary MacADNski: It was a beautiful sunny winter day here but I was inside for most of it. More snow expected tomorrow.

That is a fine patchwork of agricultural endeavour Mary
Mary MacADNski: The patchwork in England is even nicer. I'd love a go there.
I can only assume this is from the archive M smile?
Mary MacADNski: Ha, ha, ha!
We call them turnips here. We also call stupid people turnips, although I have no idea why grin
Mary MacADNski: I believe they do in Newfoundland as well which I know has primarily ancestral roots from England and Ireland.

Food for thought and stomach Mary.

Mary MacADNski: Thanks, so much.
We call 'em turnips too, Mary, "swedes" - I suspect that the rutabaga is an American invention smile
Mary MacADNski: I see. I thought maybe it was British as well.
Has Spring arrived in PEI? I like the photo though, whenever you took it.
Mary MacADNski: We are in the midst of a winter with the most snow in 11 years.
