Icy Branches

This strange weather event on Thursday was more like freezing snow than freezing rain. I can't remember experiencing it before. It melted quickly because it turned to a gravelly ice rather than solid ice which is normally what one would get.

It is all gone now (Saturday) and feeling back to spring.  After work I spent the rest of the afternoon in my garden working like a true beaver. Yesterday's day in the woods and fields was amazing!

I should like to see a shot of you gnawing your way through the trunk of a substantial but unwanted tree in your garden, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I'll see what I can do.

It'll soon be all gone Mary: then you can get your shorts on and go for a walk in the sun
Mary MacADNski: Wouldn't that be wonderful!

it has somewhat of a halo feel to it, love that effect
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Chantal. It is surrounded by ice.

It's hanging around like a crazed animal, Mary. Soon it will whimper off, indeed. In the meantime, keep working like a beaver. smile
Mary MacADNski: We Atlantic Cdns are a tough lot. We battle the worst weather and live with a glorious but short summer. We always have something to talk about.

Icy framing for a great reflection. Excellent shot.
Happy beavering.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Louis. I will certainly keep beavering. Gardening is always a lot of work.

Its funny how the pine trees seem barely affected yet the other trees and bushes are covered. I like the reflections in the lake.

It's very nearly four months since I've seen any ice in this country; I think we've just had our hottest Easter since 1949.
Mary MacADNski: I took shots on this side of the pond of ice on pines but across the pond it is spruce. It was certainly pretty.

We had an early spring last year and late this year. It will come around. We had our first rain today and I loved that. We get more tomorrow.
This really has a fantasy quality Mary
Mary MacADNski: Reality though, outside my kitchen window.
beautiful!!
love it

Fabulous picture, amazing reflection and love the contrast of the ice-branches and the green pine trees.
Mary MacADNski: Outside my kitchen window.
Lovely picture Mary. This looks like what we call Hoar Frost over here.
Mary MacADNski: It was nothing like hoar frost at all. It was frozen sleet. Little balls frozen together.

That ice-rain was something - the car was a solid block of ice. Took some time to get into it and thaw it out in the early morning!
Mary MacADNski: I'm glad it was my day off!!!! I got out to take photos instead.

belle effet de réflection !
Mary MacADNski: Merci, remla. En matin.
Mother Nature likes to play with us....you have captured one of her masterpieces of Her beauty Mary....i guess that you don't get freezing rain on the Island very often....
We lived in Ottawa through "The Great Ice Storm of '98" when we received the Mother of all ice storms that shut down the region for a 100 miles around for 14 days...

I took no pictures though....i needed ice cleats and ski poles just to remain standinggrin

Here is a link to the Ottawa Citizen News Paper to see the 13 day history of the event...if anyone is interested:

Mary MacADNski: My grandmother lived outside of Kingston and through that storm. We get freezing rain but this was freezing sleet or something. I've never seen it before. It melted in ice drops like it froze in.
Great colour and reflection, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Graeme. My solitude.
