Heron at Home

My kitchen window features many herons, ducks and other pond birds.  It is hard to get good shots because they fly off as soon as we open a door.  Once in a while I clean my windows.....

Really great shot Mary with the grasses there too.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, J. Those grasses are shown here winter and summer.

This is beautiful work, Mary.
Blue Herons are notoriously shy critters, but you have it relaxed and cruising its pond.
Mary MacADNski: Every time I open the door, they fly off. Sometimes only to the other end of the pond but out of the camera's view.
That is an awesome shot!! I would have cropped out the bull rush in the foreground, you know me, but apart from that, an excellent composition
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Marion.

...and you get lucky!
Mary MacADNski: Lots of times I've shown similar shots with dirty windows but I had just cleaned them for this one.

You mean you got this from your kitchen window??????????????
Mary MacADNski: Yes, my dear, I live on a very unique property where I get a chance to see lots of wildlife.
So this must have been one of those occasions. Excellent picture Mary
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Chris. The cats had not been outside yet to put their nose prints on the window.
wading the water
Mary MacADNski: I love watching the herons.

Wow that window must have been gleaming
Mary MacADNski: I had spring cleaned the inside and the cat's noses hadn't gotten the outside dirty yet.

from your window!! I envy you. Great shot of the blue! I find they are very difficult to shoot.
Mary MacADNski: They are difficult here at my house but they are on beaches, in rivers and everywhere around here so you can usually find one more willing to be phorogrPHED.
Lots of lovely reflection in the water to go with this lovely find of a heron!
Mary MacADNski: It's diffused but there just the same. Thanks.
If you have these coming into your garden then you are a very lucky lady Mary, what a fine shot.
Mary MacADNski: I've been showing them over the years from right here and show the pond in winter.

So this must be a wading bird Mary?
Mary MacADNski: LOL. My laugh for the day. They wade around quite avidly in this pond.
You caught him very nicely crossing your window. Definitely worth the clean
Mary MacADNski: I have lots that dirty windows ruin.
Well caught, Mary - your kitchen window has a great outlook!
Mary MacADNski: Absolutely! It has been part of my inspiration for more than 25 years.
Lovely picture Mary, I have a tiny little pond and only two fish survived the awful winter only to be taken by a Heron that I caught in the act! smile
Mary MacADNski: Oh no! There are lots of tiny fish in here and the herons love it. I've had as many as five here. This is a new one or has become shy. They migrate and have recently returned.

Fabulous! What a great thing to have outside of your door! I'm sure yiur cats appreciate it, too!
Mary MacADNski: My cats are one with the birds.
Great sense of movement in the heron, Mary. Well captured.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Graeme. I rarely get a good shot of them.
