photoblog image Wax Stage of Hoya

Wax Stage of Hoya

At one stage in their development the hoya flowers looks like it is made of wax.  This may twig a few of you into realizing you've seen this type of plant before.  One thing I love about them is that quite often they are night scented.

Take a look at this short Wiki page, if for anything, the number of varieties there are.

Some days it seems like we've been almost round the world on An Island Walk - like tonight after many consecutive days at work.

My mum had one of these plants always called it the wax plant
Mary MacADNski: Yes, that is the common name. Some are native to Australia. None are native here.

Buds are seriously impressive, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I notice you are in the Philippines. That is the most common place to find a hoya. Some are native to your homeland, AU, as well.

Amazing: I think the night scenting is to attract moths for pollination Mary
Mary MacADNski: The night-time sex workers as Ray would say.
Oh those!! Now I recognize! I had those in my house years ago!!!!
Mary MacADNski: I thought this would make some realize what they were.
creative angle
Mary MacADNski: Straight up underneath the plant.
They seem to be difficult to find in the UK
Mary MacADNski: They certainly are not native as is the way here. The Philippines and other parts of the world are their native lands.
Indeed, a curious looking plant, those "flowers" do look waxy, if not, like tiny candies. Neat shot!!
Mary MacADNski: They are a delight in any stage.
Such interesting buds,like parcels.
Mary MacADNski: Each one becomes a little star.

Interesting plant, not one I'm familiar with.
Mary MacADNski: They are very interesting an smell wonderful!
I like your composition Mary...great angle....your Hoya buds look like stars....nice....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: Of all the many varieties of hoya, the star is the common denominator.
