Harbour Hippo

This is a strange creature that roams the streets of Charlottetown in summertime, picks up passangers and takes them on a boat ride into the harbour.  In other words this vehicle turns into a boat. Truly. It is called the Harbour Hippo.

A bit like our Yellow Duckmarine in Liverpool, a great idea for a trip around the harbour Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I suppose it is - for the tourist.

They have them in Singapore, but call them Ducks.
Mary MacADNski: Ginnie mentioned the same name in other places.

How amazing: have you tried it Mary?
Mary MacADNski: No, it is for tourists. I go on boats though.

We have one similar to this tourist trap
Mary MacADNski: That is what they are good for - tourists. If you live on the water you have access to a boat and don't go out on one of these.

Judging by the double queue behind it, it must be big and slow.
Mary MacADNski: They are big but not too slow. They probably go the speed limit which pleases the city.
We have a similar vehicle in Norfolk which gives rides at the Hunstanton seaside resort>> http://www.tournorfolk.co.uk/hunstanton/hunstantonwashmonster2.jpg
Mary MacADNski: I think there are a few of them around. We also have double-decker busses.
It put me in mind of the one in Liverpool too
Mary MacADNski: They're everywhere!
What fun Mary
Mary MacADNski: If you're a tourist.
Looks like a wartime landing craft! Which I believe were called Ducks (properly DUKW) - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUKW
Mary MacADNski: I know what you mean. This one is for tourists.
Isn't is a great beast Mary....and you have framed it very well....we had a few of these in Ottawa....one of them nearly capsized close to shore one windy day....but all were saved....but it did little for business for the next few weeksgrin....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: I saw it yesterday. The largest cruise ship ever in the harbour was in yesterday. It was very busy around town.
