A very handsome bird, even when hanging a little inelegantly from the feeder, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: They are quite large and heavy for suet feeders.
Ah what a beauty! We have the red-shafted- very much the same, but with a red mustache and underwings. I love these birds! I anticipate tomorrows photo!
Mary MacADNski: I love watching them fly. They are instantly recognizable.

A unique view Mary... Such a pretty bird.
Mary MacADNski: The clean window of a friend provided this great view.
A fine looking bird Mary. Some very substantial claws too!
Mary MacADNski: They are quite a bit larger than the variety and in the woodpecker family so they need those talons to hold onto trees sideways.

Even better than Monday's image. What great detail you have here, Mary. I like the determined look in its eye(s) to get to the food. I like the tail up approach, too!
Mary MacADNski: They are distinctive looking as you will see tomorrow.
