photoblog image Back of Northern Flicker

Back of Northern Flicker

I should show the underside too as it is very different than the back.  If I was clever like the rest of you, I would make a collage. picasa has a button for that but I will save a chore like that for another day.

Click to Play:

Eels - Little Bird (though a Northern Flicker is not a small bird.)

Birds bring great joy on An Island Walk.

Nope!
This is fine and deserving of a page to itself, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: You're very kind, Ray.
I thought it was a woodpecker when I first saw it, Mary. Love the way you've caught him hanging on for dear life.
Mary MacADNski: Flickers are a type of woodpecker.

This is a wonderful photo of a great looking bird I dont collage photos (dont have enough photos to a good standard)
Mary MacADNski: I've done a few on Picasa but the very bulky program takes forever to load once I turn it on.
I agree - this is a fine photo all on it's own - as was yesterdays!
Mary MacADNski: Thank you very much, Elizabeth.

I think I like them one by one, I love the series so far, the red on the head is beautiful.
Amazing how they can 'hang on' to this feeding cage.
Mary MacADNski: You will probably like tomorrow's as the underside is very beautiful.

You don't need a collage Mary: this is good enough in it's own right
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Chris. I thought people may get bored with three shots of the same critter.
This is a lovely looking bird, spots and stripes, how clever birds are to hang on and get their food smile
Mary MacADNski: I don't get them at my feeders in the country as they live in the woods but in the city where woods aren't as plentiful, I saw one at the feeders.

As someone who is used to identify birds, I can say this picture shows you everything you need to make a positive identification. Great one.
Mary MacADNski: Tomorrow shows it's entirely unique underside which will nail it.
Another smashing pic' Mary, and a nice, sad little song from Eels, improved my morning.
Mary MacADNski: I am so happy when someone listens to the music. That makes MY day.
Another very good shot Mary, you have everything set up just right it seems. BTW our weekend newspaper said Prince William and Catherine are visiting PEI during their royal tour in a few weeks time, great excitement in your community I would imagine.
Mary MacADNski: We heard that your Daily news released that they would be going to the Anne of Green Gables site and so forth. His parents came here too when they were newlyweds.
Another great shot Mary. Looks like he's at the bird gym
Mary MacADNski: He was definitely getting a work out.
The collage is soooooooooo easy to do Mary.

This picture is fine as it is though
Mary MacADNski: I know it is but I don't have time. I have done a couple on Picasa. I may have posted one here of Clarke.

A flicker, eh? Well, a new one on me but what a lovely bird! I do like the red markings on the back of its neck.
Mary MacADNski: wait till tomorrow when you see the rest of him
These two shots deserve to stand alone Mary....i like the spots on his underside....this is a very beautiful bird....you have done it justice with your lens....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Peter. Do you get flickers at your feeders?
