photoblog image In Heat

In Heat

"Cats rub against other cats, and people,

in an attempt to mark them with their scent glands,

which are located near their temples and at ther base of the tail."

The new puss had been taken from her kittens and had been here for eight days when she went into heat. She went from trying to scare away the other cats to wanting to be their best friends and more.  She was asking for their attention in a way only she could explain.  Kenz and  Bella are quite confused as they have never seen an animal in heat.

Her appointment with the vet is next week after the heat is finished.

Ha! "Adults Only" is right! smile
Mary MacADNski: Isn't it hilarious?! Had you not listened to it before?
There you go Mary!!!.... you take care of your son's cat for a month and when he gets her back.....well let's just say that "Mother fixed it"....poor pussygrin....great shot and storysmile....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: We believe pets should be neutered and immunized. I'll do the work. He will happily pay for it.
What a sweetie, I am a sucker for cats
Mary MacADNski: So am I, Chantal.
Well, for all the trouble- she sure is a beauty! I like this portrait of her!
Mary MacADNski: She is darling too.

Oh poor puss.! I hope she is OK. No wonder your girls are confused.
Mary MacADNski: She is rubbing them to death!!!!
We have never had an un-neutered cat.
Mary MacADNski: Same here, other than my old cat, Mama Kitty. I got two of my Mom's neighbour's kittens at different times. Both died. I went for another and the woman gave me the mother instead saying, "She can keep you supplied."

She went into heat a couple of days after I got her, had kittens and I then got her spayed.... my only experience with an unneutered cat.
Oh by the way, a Tiddler is something very small. Often said about very small fish when they are caught by children. Nothing to do with the Tom tiddler in dickens or the old children's game
Mary MacADNski: I've never heard that word. Chris had a word this week too, fish slice, that I had never heard before.
Lovely shot mary, great set of whiskers
Mary MacADNski: She does have nice, big, curly whiskers.
Beautiful portrait.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks very much.

I think the vet appointment is a very good idea Mary!
Mary MacADNski: She is going in on Wed night - if the heat has ended. It's been 6 days now and they told me it would last anywhere from two days to a week.
I'll bet she has beautiful kittens!
Mary MacADNski: I didn't ever see them but my son did.

A real cool cat in my estimation
Mary MacADNski: I hope her heat ends soon. The other cats are finding her quite difficult.
Aww, sweet
Mary MacADNski: She finished her heat today, I think. I hope. She goes to the vet tomorrow.
Did you never find out what happened to Cark? I had a cat years ago in the first property i bought, a ground floor apartment in an 1780's house. He went in and out the bedroom window to the court yard for about 6 months, and never returned one day. I like to believe a little girl took him to live in the country, rather than anything else that might happen in the city centre :-(
Mary MacADNski: The in and out the basement apt. window is a familiar tale. It happened to one of mine. You have a nice way to imagine a better outcome. I'm sure it was a coyote as it happened at night. My niece let him out and a short while later he disappeared. This cat's heat is possibly over. The vets say 2-7 days. This is day 7 and her first day not trying to rub us to death. The cats are so confused.
That should read 'Clark' smile
The cats must be sterilized before the first heat to prevent breast cancer.
Mary MacADNski: If I had owned her I would have. She was from the friend of my son. He gave him to my son. She is in hospital now for the procedure and comes home tomorrow. I love her!
