I think they are sending you a clear message, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Grass is more interesting than anything to a beef cow. I hope that is the message.

I like cows of all sorts (& angles) Mary
Mary MacADNski: I preferred when the farmer had dairy cows. They would accustomed to handling and were friendly. Beef cows have only grass on the mind.
I hope this is not a comment on the royal visit Mary smile
Mary MacADNski: Not at all! I will not be able to view the royals from my deck.

A fascinating study of the cow's backsides; best admire from a distance, I fee - out of splashing range, at least!

Happy Canada Day!
Mary MacADNski: It is well out of slashing range. I like having them in that pasture every once in a while.

It's back end of cow friday!
Mary MacADNski: May be eating those steaks some Friday.
I try to hate cows as they destroy my pond, my garden and everything in they're wake... that said... how can you NOT like cows? Those big ol' eyes and drooly little noses!
Mary MacADNski: Aren't the cows fenced in around you? I like watching their peaceful way.
No they're not fenced in- most of the American west is open range. If you don't want them on your property - YOU have to go to the trouble and expense to fence them OUT! Frustrating. Mostly because we WANT the elk, deer and antelope- so we won't go to the expense to fence out the cows. We just grit our teeth and try to scare them away! This particular part of the country is a very fragile ecosystem. It was never meant to support cattle. In the Mid-West (Oklahoma, Kansas...) they ask "How many head of cattle per acre" will your land support. Here they ask "How many acres per head of cattle". More than you wanted to know!!!!! I'll step off my soap box now! smile
Mary MacADNski: I can imagine how frustrating that would be. Here pasturing is regulated so that cattle are kept away from waterways. It was a long time coming with many people on soapboxes for many years before the favorable results of the current legislature.
Isn't that crazy? And here it's illegal to fence cows out of waterways! Water is so scarce.
Mary MacADNski: Our only source of water is groundwater so we take care of it. We have buffer zones for crops and cattle are fenced out.
