The rust is good!

I wonder if the royals grabbed a picture of it?
Mary MacADNski: The Royals were not on this end of the Island.
Love the rust against the blue of the water.
Mary MacADNski: It's a good contrast in a photo.

And it will just fade away in time Mary...
Mary MacADNski: The roadbed is about gone. I showed some shots of this spot last year when it was covered with cormorants.
needs a paint with all that rust
Mary MacADNski: It is an old condemned wharf.

Rust always wins its a great colour
Mary MacADNski: The rust has moved into my joints. I am hoping it doesn't win with me.

Decommissioned is such an odd word but it seems to convey the meaning.
Mary MacADNski: It is a common word around here when talking about old wharves or lighthouses.

Mmmm, I can now see why the ground/rocks over there has the ferrous colouring.
Mary MacADNski: From rusty old wharves?
Great clashing colours.
Mary MacADNski: Makes it all work.

Its interesting to see that only the part usually above the waterline is rusty; the rest of it looks in relatively reasonable condition. We used to have a big fishing industry until the beaurocrats of Europe wrecked it.
Mary MacADNski: The tide action scrubs the metal every day and has kept it from rusting but above that level, the salt air makes the metal rust.
Not a ruined boat Friday? smile
Mary MacADNski: No boats are allowed here now so I couldn't have a boat for Boat Friday.
It makes for a very good image though. Adds a lovely ridge of color, that keeps the horizontal lines going from the exposed soil just above... Nice job!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Elizabeth. A favorite old spot when my children were young.
Well-composed: the colors and lines really make this "pop."
Mary MacADNski: The rust is certainly bright and really does contrast well with the dark water.

Lots of great contrasts. Nice image.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Jennie. A favorite old spot for me.
It may be an eyesore now Mary but it sure makes for a great subject to capture... it had its purpose and it is sad that the fishing industry has gone this way....i do like the red clay on the shorelinesmile....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: A lot of the old wharves have been decommissioned or bought by private people. I used to swim at this beach. Now I have to walk around a point to get there.
Good shot Mary
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, John. Rust is always a good subject.
