Well that's quite a thing! How long does the trip take?
Mary MacADNski: One hour and fifteen minutes.

Great looking craft Mary
Mary MacADNski: It's not that old.

Well worth the ride, Mary, I'm sure. I'd take it in a heartbeat, just to get a picture of that lighthouse. smile
Mary MacADNski: I can walk you to the lighthouse and have you take a tour of the old one beside this one. It is an excellent tour.
that is a big one
Mary MacADNski: It's big but not one of the biggest we've had.

It looks very clean from this shot Mary.
Mary MacADNski: All ships should look ship shape I should think.

Is a ferry the only 'normal' way to get of the island? Happy Boat Friday.
Mary MacADNski: No. An engineering feat was opened in June '97 allowing a bridge crossing. It is to a different mainland that this ferry travels. We are nestled between two mainlands.

I'm sure catching a ferry like this is just routine to the locals but it's always a sense of adventure for me. Although there is now a bridge to the Isle of Skye, I much prefer to arrive by ferry. I assume that in the other 5 months, there is too much potential for bad weather and ice?
Mary MacADNski: We also have a bridge that connects us to a different mainland. Big, big bridge.

Is the water frozen for the other 5?
Mary MacADNski: No, but the bad weather and freezing conditions of the past dictated the dates. It is so cold this spring/summer that who knows what the dates will be in the future.
This one looks so shiny & new, Mary. Since the Confederation bridge was built, I've never taken the ferry across but I do remember very well crossing on the old Abegweit many, many times. Seem to recall that it was an icebreaker which operated all year round.
Mary MacADNski: My daughter lives in NS so we use the boat that way. My family live in NB so we use the bridge. Depends on where you are going or coming from. Yes the Cape Tormentine boats to NB operated year round.
My question is the same as others about the 5 remaining months Mary, but this does look a fine ship and like Ginnie I love that lighthouse.
Mary MacADNski: Weather in the olden days dictated the dates. I doubt they have been changed in decades or ever. They could stay running longer and/or open earlier but it is about the revenues I would imagine. They drop sharply after the tourists leave.
Looks like a really calm day for it. Does it get rough around those parts?
Mary MacADNski: This crossing can be quite rough. I remember a few rocky trips.

The boat colour co-ordinates with the lovely lighthouse, it looks very well maintained smile
Mary MacADNski: It is all nice here. The locals also operate the old lighthouse next door with fabulous tours and events and a craft shop.
Do you still have to pay to get off the island?... I thought that was funny when we visited... by ferry and back by way of the bridge. Nice shot.
Mary MacADNski: You do. It saves one half the manpower to collect the toll both ways.

The grass seems unimpressed by this technology,Mary.
Mary MacADNski: It is on the beach - lots of time yet to ripen.
