Ram 'er In

The MV Confederation travels to one of our mainlands, Nova Scotia. On her maiden voyage she pulled up to a new loading/unloading berth with ramps and all the bells and whistles that was built to accomodate her.  Funny thing, the engineers forgot to take into consideration that the ferry had to raise and lower this large door on the front.  Everything had to be redesigned and rebuilt.

Nancy White, a PEI-born, Toronto based humourous songwriter and singer wrote a song after the event, Ram 'er In. I'll see if I can find an mp3.

Sorry the photo is a little crooked.

A great Boat Fridat picture Mary. A fine boat.
Mary MacADNski: She's not bad! I've spent many an hour on her.

I like the picture, Mary.

I love the anecdote!
Mary MacADNski: Imagine, Imagine how embarrassed the project directors must have been, let alone the engineers...and the bureaucrats!
Great shot Mary - interesting background!
Mary MacADNski: With it being a bit crooked, the clouds are useful.
This is a fantastic shot Mary... there is nothing like a hungry boat for Friday!smile... mouth wide open....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: Yes, a hungry boat.

How could they forget a thing like that??
Mary MacADNski: Unbelievable, isn't it!
It is difficult not to take a small pleasure when the experts get things totally wrong.
Mary MacADNski: LOL Isn't that true! Nancy was right for writing a comedy song so we could have a laugh. We had to pay for it, Might as well laugh rather than erupt, eh?

Sometimes I wonder if it might not be advisable to include a lay person on design teams. The experts and be too clever for their own good.
Mary MacADNski: I would be good at a job like that.

Mary I love this picture. The cars give a sense of scale and I know how huge the ship is. I think you have captured it from a perfect angle with the open door and the length of the vessel in the frame.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Thomas. The lovely clouds helped this one.
Rather embarrassing to make such a fundamental design error, nice shot Mary.
Mary MacADNski: So typical of the bureaucracy. Can you imagine how embarrassed the project directors must have been, let alone the engineers...and the bureaucrats!
that is a large one, I hope they close that big door very tight
Mary MacADNski: It closes fine after incredible expense.

Great boat friday Mary I agree with bills Comment
Mary MacADNski: Absolutely! I'm glad we all heard about it through Nancy's song.
It looks a big ship but someone had a lot of explaining to do I suspect.
Mary MacADNski: Can you imagine how embarrassed the project directors must have been, let alone the engineers...and the bureaucrats!
Great story, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Tom. Worthy of the song too.
Nice shot of it Mary. That was a pretty bad set back but they got there in the end
Mary MacADNski: We laughed about it even though as taxpayers we had to pay for it.
Ram'er in, pls Mary send the link if you find the song. This situation seems to be frequent given the alcohol levels in the engineering professions nowadays. In Madrid main station (Atocha) fr high speed trains (built around 1998), they had to rebuilt width of docks (design by a well known & famous architect) when they realized the incoming ultramodern trains could not go in. It was not said to the public, they just redesign them quietly...50 additional centimetres, each side, at who knows what cost.
Mary MacADNski: Similar situations but we Canadians recognized the stupidity and laughed at it even though the tax payers payed for it.

I am a friend of the singer's brother. I called and asked and he does not have the mp3. It would be available in Canadian music sellers. Nancy White is her name. The song was Ram 'er In. She writes comic songs and albums.
Don't know why but I've always loved the Canadian emblem smile
Mary MacADNski: It's simple. I was in 3rd grade when the debate for the new flag was happening.
