First Snow 2011

I drove home from work on Wednesday through our first serious snowfall of the year. Thursday was my day off and all day I dealt with snow. I think I've had as much shoveling as I can take for the year.  Groan....

this is a truly sublime image...
Mary MacADNski: You are kind.
Lovely image Mary, really like the subtle colours in this!
Mary MacADNski: This scene is from my back door and gets seen here every once in a while.

Great picture, Mary.

But...what's this shovelling nonsense all about...it seems no-one is happy about where the snow falls, so everyone picks up monstrous shovels and moves it about. Why don't you just leave it there, and work around it?

That is my plan for when it snows in Bangkok...
Mary MacADNski: I have to go to work, Ray.

Beautiful image Mary
Mary MacADNski: First of the year but we have above zero temps now and will till we hit the double digits on Mon and Tues. Weather is very changeable at this time of year. Glad to see you back. That camera is going to be awesome.

Mary MacADNski: This is part of my pond and it's been shown here many times over the years.

Snow is great to take pictures off, but that is almost the only advantage of snow.
...and please be careful in the snow, don't fall!!!
Mary MacADNski: I'm a Capricorn, a goat. Only fell once and remember how that turned out. Groan!

Very pretty Mary but I'm glad it's not like that here!
Mary MacADNski: It will be, won't it? Not as often but you had this amount of snow last year, I believe. In some sections of England anyway.

It blows my mind to see this now, Mary. However, I still recall one of the biggest blizzards of my life, driving from Madison, WI, through Chicago around the southern end of Lake Michigan on our way to my parents in middle Michigan...on Thanksgiving weekend! I wouldn't mind it if you'd send some our way!

It's such a beautiful, peaceful scene. It doesn't give away that you had to be shoveling that much. (sigh)
Mary MacADNski: This is from my back door and I was doing lots of shoveling but it didn't harm my fine view.
Wonderful image, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I love it every day.
winter is there already I see
Mary MacADNski: Already! We are to have double digit temps by Monday. I'ts 6 - 8 till then.
Very nice Mary. Here we are sort of early autumn so far.
Mary MacADNski: Our seasons move faster and more intense here.

The first snow always looks the most pristine. I like the layers in this photograph with the grasses in the foreground.
Mary MacADNski: It sure was ugly in the city today. I was trying to get all the layers - and straight. I got some other shots too.

Good photo Mary I suppose the water will become ice soon
Mary MacADNski: Whenever it gets cold again. We are to have double digit temps by Monday. I'ts 6 - 8 till then.
Let others say how pretty it is. ~I think it's a bloomin' nuisance grin

Actually it does look pretty.

Shall I rub it in by saying it is a mild sunny day here?
Mary MacADNski: This is pretty at my back door but it wasn't pretty in the city this morning.
How can something we constantly complain about make the landscape look so incredibly beautiful? Stunning capture, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I only complain about shoveling and driving in it. The rest is fine.

LOL! Its only just started, Mary! I like the composition very much with the apparent warmth of the colours in the foreground and then trees across the water.
Mary MacADNski: This is part of my pond and it's been shown here many times over the years.
It does look lovely in this image Mary but I don't envy you one bit having all that snow every year.
Mary MacADNski: Thank you for that. I have just realized how tired I am of it.

I find it so hard to get snow and colour in one photo - this is lovely. Perhaps we will be next
Mary MacADNski: Thank you. It can come anytime now and this was only our first taste. Made us smarten up.

And so we had our first real rain this week. One thing it points out, is that I had roof gutters to clean. This is done now. One year I will do it before the first rain.

Great picture of the first snow.
Mary MacADNski: That is what I was just saying the comment before this one. This small taste made us smarten up.
Poor you but lucky you as well to get such beautiful winter scenes

Not snow already Mary, how do you feel about this?
Mary MacADNski: I only complain about shoveling and driving in it. The rest is fine.
I have just realized how tired I am of it.
It sure was ugly in the city today.
This is from my back door and I was doing lots of shoveling but it didn't harm my fine view.

The above were cut and pasted if you really did want to know.
Sounds like hard work. Looks nice though!
Mary MacADNski: Snow is hard work for the middle aged. I'm darned tired of it.
Oh Mary, and the winter has only just begun... sigh indeed! But what an amazing shot you have here, you must admit the snow makes for an incredible image!!
Mary MacADNski: It didn't last long and was an appetizer of what is to come.
Great landscape Mary! I love the reflections in the water, well done.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Frances.
