Mad Machine

While walking in the forest I came apon a wood harvester. They maim and scar the earth and take jobs from many forestry workers. Besides that they are noisy and stink. Yuck!

Fantastic capture Mary! You have taught me something this evening looking at your photo and I appreciate that. It's sad to see the forest ruined like this.
Mary MacADNski: There is not an uglier machine to see at work. It pushes the whole tree through 'the eye of a needle' stripping it of all branches.
An excellent activism photo! Yuck indeed!!
Mary MacADNski: I truly hate them.

I know what you mean Mary: horrible things!
Mary MacADNski: Monsters!
his hits me hard, since I just heard of a family member dying while working in the wood and logging business...
Mary MacADNski: Accidents occur in every industry and I know personally several from the forestry industry. These machines are not the answer though.

It looks and feels a bit like "rape and plunder," if you ask me, Mary!
Mary MacADNski: That is just what they do.

Mad machines and foresters both make noise and causes damage. With the mad machine, less families are fed from the same piece of forest that gets plundered.

The argument that is heard a lot in Africa. We have seen a huge roadworks improvement scheme going on since 2007 and is now completed. A lot of manual labour was used in the process, otherwise it could have been completed about 2 years ago. Because the manual labour goes on alongside heavy construction, lives are lost (form of plundering).

Deforestation is done by Chinese in Zambia. Zambians have no idea of the size or speed of what is happening (neither do I). The only machines I saw are the transport and milling machines. For the rest there is money to be earned by locals in an area where there is unemployment above 80%.

Sometimes I think that everyone should slow down a bit, it would do a world of good. I have worked in the ITC industry for some time. As you start to understand the benefits and explore applications of new technology, it is already being replaced by newer technology. To this day, I believe that no-one knows what is actually cooking in that industry.
Mary MacADNski: Forestry is an age old industry here. It is best worked on my hand rather than these machines. Period. I hate them.
Eves of Destruction. We all should use less paper!
Mary MacADNski: I detest these machines with a passion. My realm is the forest and coming across this is like coming apon someone being assaulted.
Excellent photo Mary, even outside of its symbolism. Really like the depth you've captured here, and the machine being submerged to emphasise the extent of its destruction.
Mary MacADNski: The strong sunlight was a problem but it lit up the trees at thr right place so worked, strangely.
It is a good picture of the man and machine in their working environment and could quite easily grace the pages of forest industry literature but I do get your point about the mess eytc.they leave behind.

I don't know if it is the same there as here but the forest has to be thinned and the value of the smaller diameter thinnings has been very low in recent years. It barely pays to even take them from the forest. i am afraid they are a necessary evil

This type of work happens a lot around here in the forestry, some were unable to work this week because of the horrendous wind we had smile
Mary MacADNski: I would say woods work is still happening here with the lack of snow - or it could be if someone wasn't drawin' the pogey.

On a smaller scale, we have mechanised hedge cutters going along the roads and cutting everything back in their path. Horrible. This is a massacre

Looks like an allien Mary! Great capture.
Mary MacADNski: It is a monster.
Definitely a mad machine.. Not something I'd like to see, an eye sore!

Yup - altogether nasty - I hope this is managed forest and that replanting is going to take place - felled woodland is a terrible sight!
Mary MacADNski: When it is felled like this, nothing is uglier. I suppose it will probably be replanted.
I agree with your comments Mary - a real destructive force. But, as usual, money talks loudest and these give bigger profits. I'm so glad you got this photo - it speaks volumes and brings this home with a punch.

It reminds me of War of the Worlds, except we don't need outside help, being capable of despoiling the planet unassisted.
Mary MacADNski: It happens for profit and with greed.

I'm amazed at some of these machines can do from felling the timber to cutting it into logs all of a uniform length; all done with one man in the cab. They often leave deep tranches in the cleared areas from their huge tyres.

I agree, Yuck! Nice shot

good picture though, yes see your point
