photoblog image Cold Grass

Cold Grass

It was above zero till a week ago and cold temps since then have formed ice. This shot was taken a year ago but could be today. We are expecting snow turning to rain overnight.  The result will be slush to drive in for the daily commute. We Canadians have to be tough!

Beautiful capture Mary! Cold, crisp and clean with brillant contrast. Nice Winter scene smile
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Frances.
Ooooh chilly! I always leave the grasses sticking out of our pond for winter - I think they add such a lovely contrast to the snow & ice!
Mary MacADNski: Hard when you run into it on skates. LOL
Great composition Mary... i am so sorry that winter has arrived to your Island... so put your skates in the car in case your roads freeze up... "We Canadians have to be tough!"grin....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: Any ice that formed last week broke up today and overnight. Heavy winds but warm. The snow from Thursday overnight is gone.

You Canadians ARE tough, Mary. You probably have 100 different words for snow, like the Eskimos! smile Even though from last year, I LOVE this image.
Mary MacADNski: Too funny. This is salt water at the edge of a bay but could be my pond.

It almost looks like a bubbling hot spring. I will take your word for it that it is cold.

PS. stay indoors as much as you can - no slipping and sliding again.
Mary MacADNski: All the ice that formed last week has broken up and moved around due to heavy winds and above zero temps.
well, I do miss real winter here.
Mary MacADNski: Many miss it here too. Everyone has some kind of winter sport that they miss doing. For me it is snowshoeing. I love skating on my pond too but at least |I could do that in a rink.

I can take snow, take rain too, but slush - uugghh!!
Mary MacADNski: Same here! There was not much snow so it wasn't as bad as predicted.
Half an inch of snow here and we grind to a halt
Mary MacADNski: Canada's west coast is like that too.

We have had it incredibly mild this year but that is of course purely down to the Gulf Stream Mary.
Mary MacADNski: We are having a very warm year. Not much happened from the mentioned weather system and the ice that formed earlier in the week with the warm temperatures is now broken up and moving around with strong winds.
No snow here as yet Mary. Today we have a temperature of 10C!
Mary MacADNski: It snowed last night and is going to be +8 here today. Crazy!
Yuch - slush - hate it! Still no snow here - although the temperature is dropping over the weekend.
Mary MacADNski: Our snow is mostly gone and it's been above 0 for two days. It is going to dip again and go back up Tuesday.

It would be absolute mayhem in the UK with all sorts of warning about "essential journeys only". Mind you, we get snowy conditions about once every fiev years on average now and as most people can;t drive in perfect conditions, its not surprising that they can't come with a few millimetres of snow.
Mary MacADNski: We usually have had a few storms by now but none so far this year. My pet peeve is that some drivers use summer tires in winter. I have studded snow tires and have no problem driving but people who wear summer tires will hold up ther whole commute and think nothing of it. It drives me bonkers!

..oh, meant to say that it's a lovely image!
Mary MacADNski: Ha ha. Thank you.

Lovely image, with the ice encroaching the grass, it has turned colder here today smile

a fine unusual detail photo that shows the power of Mr. Winter!
Mary MacADNski: Mb nnnnnnnnnnn. Kenz just typed her reply.

Thank you Philine. Winter certainly can be a powerful force
I like this very much Mary, one I would like to have taken myself.
Mary MacADNski: Well that is a compliment!
11 C here Madrid but expect rain & snow. If it happens, the country will stop, we do not know how to handle it!
Mary MacADNski: It feels strange to b in January and not to have had a traditional snowy winter yet. I keep saying that there is lots of time yet and we are sure to have some storms.
The grass is so green here and still growing this year, though frost tonight. I checked out the link yesterday and that too was a superb image.
Mary MacADNski: My lawn grass is green too. Our ground is not frozen this year either. Frozen ground helps control many insects and we gardeners all hope for a freeze for at least this reason.
It makes a lovely image Mary The camellias are out and the daffodils are coming up in Cornwall
Mary MacADNski: I heard the spring bulbs were springing. Wow. I have some forced in pots. You may beat them!
the slush down here is actually rather dangerous and slippery...
Mary MacADNski: It is worse than ice or snow.
