They seem very "At Home" on the white stuff, Mary. Are they making a meal of some fallen apples?
Mary MacADNski: Yes, fallen apples are great winter and spring food for the birds.
Darling and maybe daring! smile
Mary MacADNski: There was a huge flock of them. Most were in the tops of the trees and were scared of nothing.
This is a great shot of the starlings Mary... i see that they like your apple tree... at home the apples would be under two feet of snowsmile
Happy Valentine's Day....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: The robins have return all over the island. First sign of spring usually but seeing that winter seems to have begun on 01 Feb.....
Lunch time!
Mary MacADNski: They certainly love to chatter during lunch.
Cold view
Mary MacADNski: Winter is here.
What a lovely image, Mary. I always leave a good supply of fallen apples from our tree for the birds. (:o)
Mary MacADNski: Me too. I have lots of trees and get lots of birds.

A murmuration
Mary MacADNski: It was about 5 minutes before this, but only a small one of maybe 2-3 hundred birds. The sky was black for a moment.
They look like hungry darling starlings today, Mary. Do you feed them?
Mary MacADNski: I feed birds but the fallen apples draw birds like nothing else I could feed them.

Our back garden Mary when I go out and feed the birds, nice capture.
Mary MacADNski: The old apple trees are natural bird feeders. I have several and they bring a host of birds.
Ready for a meal by the looks of it!
Mary MacADNski: Hunger averted for another day.

It's a fine shot Mary! I love to see them flying: in formation!
Mary MacADNski: There is a flock of a couple of hundred that hang out here. The under side of many bridges house flocks of thousands.
I also like that sea-kind landscape in the background, the grasses by the fence, which adds to this delicate composition.
Mary MacADNski: There are robins only in that spot at the moment.

Looks like they have found plenty to eat. Gardens starlings seem less common here in recent years but in various locations around the country huge flocks (millions of birds) gather to roost each night.
Mary MacADNski: Lots and lots to eat here. The underside of many bridges house flocks of thousands. A flock of a couple of hundred hang out here
very nice
snow is foreign here
Mary MacADNski: Not on Mount Koziosko, with it's beautiful snow gums.

Oh, this is a wonderful winter picture, it reminds me of a Dutch winter painting - the birds seem to have found some food to pick up.
Mary MacADNski: I have many apple trees so there is lots to eat.
Is it wrong to tell you my daffodils are about to bloom and the snowdrops and crocuses have been out for about two weeks smile
Mary MacADNski: And the crocus' are beautiful.
A beautiful capture of their lunch time Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Richard. They enjoy apples for sure.

I have a couple of apple trees and the birds have a great time with the apples.
I like the shadow of the little one flying smile
Mary MacADNski: That shadow is my favorite part of the photo.
They are taking every opportunity to gulp down what has been put out for them.
Mary MacADNski: Having dessert.
Love watching flocks of starlings.
Mary MacADNski: Me too! The underside of many bridges house flocks of thousands. It's a good place to see the murmurations.

I see what you mean about your spring being a while away, Mary. It's good that these hungry little starlings are well fed. I like the composition of this
Mary MacADNski: It seems real winter has just gotten under way two weeks ago. Until then, we had a very mild winter.

After the apples again, I see. I think I am getting to know your backyard smile
Mary MacADNski: This section outside this window by the computer certainly has shown up here a lot over the years.
Nature has provided them a tasty treat, Mary. I just love the image of the flying Starling and the shadow it is casting on the snow.
Mary MacADNski: I love that little flying shadow too! Thank you.
