photoblog image Equal Opportunity?

Equal Opportunity?

Shot this on the way home from work tonight.  I got better shots of the eagle but liked this young crow lining up with the gaggle of geese, the ducks, and the feasting eagle.  I saw the dead goose on the ice this morning on my way to work but it is low tide in this shot.  The eagle may have moved the carcass or the tide moved the ice.

This has a feeling of cold, and winter, even the birds look cold.
Mary MacADNski: It wasn't too bad.

I am impressed by the amount of feathered wildlife you find in these conditions, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I live in an interesting place.
Nicely spotted - your image is stark and bold -showing what these creatures endure.
Mary MacADNski: It was snowing so not that clear.

You are so lucky to be able to photograph eagles Mary!
Mary MacADNski: I certainly am, Chris.
It looks a tough existence for these birds Mary
Mary MacADNski: They manage but I see a dead goose many mornings.
Your returning home photo trips are very, very rewarding Mary. Straight phenology of the best kind!
Mary MacADNski: I wish I wasn't in such a hurry to get home. I turned around after this to get a better shot but the eagle flew up a tree. I got a shot of that. I'm sure seconds after I was again on my way home, the eagle would be back with his dinner.
brrr, looks cold
Mary MacADNski: It is winter.
They might be used to the climate but this must be a hardlife for these birds Mary!
Mary MacADNski: It's just the way it is. Yesterday was gorgeous all day but there were snow flurries on the way home. It didn't last. Today is sunny and -7, absolutely beautiful. I was out on snowshoes a couple of hours taking photographs. I had gloves but never put them on.
You certainly captured the moment Mary. Work? Whats that?
Mary MacADNski: Necessary.
A stunning picture! shows the struggle of life to overcome these adverse conditions ... Good job Mary!
Mary MacADNski: You got it exactly. Thanks.

Was the crow trying its luck, I wonder? Do they go after ducks and geese and does the freeze make them they for anything, I wonder? At least the eagle has something to it.
Mary MacADNski: Hundreds of gees gather here in winter, there's several species of ducks and lots of birds of all kinds hanging out. They don't seem to mind that the eagle is cleaning up their dead.

Fantastic shot Mary; I rarely see an eagle, let alone on the way home from work! smile
Mary MacADNski: I see them often on my commute.
Brrr it feels really cold in this picture Mary.
Mary MacADNski: It was a beautiful day but there was a snow shower on the way home.

Interesting scene and explanation Mary.
Mary MacADNski: There is always something nice or interesting on my daily commute
This looks as though it was rather chilly Mary. At least the other birds can keep an eye on the eagle.
Mary MacADNski: It was minus 6 and beautiful all day but clouded over and there was a bit of a flurry at this part of the commute. When I got home from work to God's country, the weather was nice again. I got a lovely sunset shot a while later. Out snowshoeing all morning on this minus 7, bright sunshiny day.

You just dress for it. I used my camera all morning not once putting my gloves on.

Imagine being able to photograph an eagle as a matter of course! You can see how cold it all is from the huddle of birds
Mary MacADNski: Yes, they are well established here. It is awesome.
What a great sight on a winter's morning!
Mary MacADNski: I do not mind my commutes in the least.
