This is a series of photos of horses taken from 19 May to 16 October this year.

This is in late June and the drought we experienced had already begun.

Ha Ha

The horses did a raid of the next paddock last night...now there is a feast for a couple of days...drought? what drought!
Mary MacADNski: It didn't rain at all this summer in our area. It is unheard of for horses to have to eat dried hay in summer.
I like the way you've included so much of the background - with the bails.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, ma'am. It shows how dry it was.

Isn't it odd that our weather was completely opposite to yours
Mary MacADNski: I know! It was unusual for both of us too.

Were they winter-feeding already, Mary?
Mary MacADNski: Yes! Unheard of ever before. It was a tough year for farmers. Food prices are soaring as this drought affected a large part of North America - and its farmers.

Lovely capture Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thank you, ma'am.

I feel more comfortable with you standing behind the wire fence Mary.
Mary MacADNski: So do I but I think these are pretty calm horses as the are pets of girls who have had them for many years.
Home on the range.
Mary MacADNski: No deer and antelope here though.
I enjoy the spring feel to it
Mary MacADNski: It is nice to look back with the dull landscapes we have endure at this time of year.
We got all your rain!

Lovely picture Mary
Mary MacADNski: I know. Perhaps we needed more English visitors to bring the rain. You see, all of the N Americans went over there for the Olympics, etc. and brought our share of the rain.

Oh, they are enjoying their lunch without any struggle -for there is enough food for them -I like the straw balls, in my view an epitome of late Summer time.
Mary MacADNski: Usually horses eat only fresh grass in the summer but drought conditions meant they had to be supplemented with hay because grass was not growing fast enough.

Oh yes, if you want to read up on cameras, do comparisons, etc go to http://www.dpreview.com/ With long articles, go the end and check the pro's and con's.
Mary MacADNski: That has always been my first stop.
Time for lunch.
Mary MacADNski: The one on the right is thinking, "Everything I eat goes to my hips".
Nice shot Mary. You do live in a good place.
Mary MacADNski: It is very nice here in the country.

It's a shame you couldn't have taken some of our interminable rain.
Mary MacADNski: It would have been good for all concerned.

Foodstock intended for the winter months probably. Then with next year's crop already suffering, it will be a tough time again.
Mary MacADNski: It was a very strange year for farmers but what year isn't fraught with extremes somewhere.
Another lovely capture in this series Mary.
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Fred. It resumes again on Sunday.
Enjoying a good tuck-in!
Mary MacADNski: Horses seem always to be eating.
This bale seems being a great meal to them Mary! Fine capture.
Mary MacADNski: Hay smells good and is delicious to them I am sure.

A plentiful supply of hay, good capture Mary
Mary MacADNski: Hay is scarce this year. There was no second crop to speak of.
Lovely series Mary, the horses seem as happy as my children today!
Mary MacADNski: Your children can't be teenagers yet.
Still a fair bit of munching to be done, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: It will last a few meals.

Too much rain or too little. Too bad we can't spread it all around and even it out, Mary. In the meantime, I'm sure glad they had something to eat!
Mary MacADNski: We must figure out a way. I suggested everyone blow really hard to send the clouds over here but I don't know if there was enough of a crowd doing it. wink
ezxcellent photo. i like the sheen on the right one.
Mary MacADNski: She is such a pretty horse.

Only so much rain to go round - we had it all! Fingers crossed it is more evenly spread next year!
Mary MacADNski: If next summer is the same, everyone in England could blow really, really hard toward the Maritime Provinces of Canada at the same time and perhaps the clouds will move over the jet stream , bringing relief to all.
getting well stuck into the winter stocks. Lovely soft summer look Mary
Mary MacADNski: It was a poor year for haymaking and no one that I know had a second crop that is the usual.

Good photo I wonder how long it would take them to finish it off
Mary MacADNski: I don't know to tell you the truth.
