Emergent 1

In spring when new leaves were emerging I showed some photos taken in a walk in the woods. Here are some additional shots from the time.

I find it odd that the focus is centered so well on the two sides but not in the middle.

I like it, Mary, and think the dual focal points are wonderful!
Mary MacADNski: Thanks, Ray.
These look so much like Aspen catkins. I've had this focus problem - if the camera is trained on the closest object- and isn't told to focus on the central object...
Mary MacADNski: I thought it might be bothersome to some people.
Very nice with the repetition in the background Mary!
Mary MacADNski: Thank you, Richard.

These look so real, Mary - and perhaps nicer that they are in focus both sides
Mary MacADNski: I thought the odd focus might bother some.

Signs of hope

But that string collector!
Mary MacADNski: It is strange looking string. Looks like rope in thickness. Very odd anyway.
I suppose the ones on the side are on the same plane, Mary, but what do I know. It's most lovely.
Mary MacADNski: I think you're right. Thanks very much.
I don't find the focus odd Mary simply that the two buds are near and therefore in focus. I love the string collector, what a wonderfully interesting hobby that must be.
Mary MacADNski: I find the composition very odd with the focus. At least the hobbyist can keep it outdoors.
It makes a nice effect though, Mary.
Mary MacADNski: I wasn't sure it would work.

Chad is right about the focus... if you would have set the single focus point it would be different, I can choose between 52/25/1 focus points.... very handy.
I love this picture, so delicate so beautiful.
Mary MacADNski: I just was not sure if it would be thought an odd composition.
I like a nice catkin type thing picture Mary
Mary MacADNski: I like that time of year so will try another in spring.
I don't mind the way this is focused at all Mary, others have written about the technical reasons why it is like this, but I like it anyway. Fancy collecting all that string.
Mary MacADNski: I'm glad it went over. I thought it a bit odd compositionally.

Very arty. The different focal poits work quite well.

Ummmm.. why would anyone want to collect striong like that?
Mary MacADNski: It looks like rope to me with the thickness. I thought it might be bailer twine perhaps. I thought the composition might be odd and am glad people like it.
that is some collection of string... it looks more like twine though...

i figured out your focus on the flowers Mary...
the two side ones were in focus but the center and the one above are facing away so they are further into the depth of field....petersmile
Mary MacADNski: I know how the focus works but thought poeple might find it an odd composition because of it. I think it is bailer twine that the fellow is collecting too.

A hanging rack for cheerleader pom-poms.

Your camera allows you to choose between multi-point focus, or focus at a single point. With the single point selected, you get to choose the focus point.
Mary MacADNski: Perfect description. Thanks, teckie
